I use a Zilla compact fixture for my cham viv's, i love that they run on seperate timers. My T 5 bulb is weak on one and I need to order a new one, any suggestions in the T 5 size?

Are the zilla lights safe now?
They were definitely on the "to avoid" list not to long ago.

why on the to avoid list? i have had them for awhile and th e chams seem fine, but I know that the spectrum thing is particular and I want to replace the long bulb.

if you are not sure , then why would you take the chance? if you are going to have to spend $20 to replace the bulb , then why not spend another $20 so that you can KNOW it is safe? and if you replace the bulb with one that is questionable, you will be faced with the same dilema again in less than a year. if you have a chance to fix the problem now for an extra $20, and you dont, then what will you say to yourself, if one morning you wake up and find that he is not fine? a trip to the vet could cost you 5 x that. i would think that your chams health and your own piece of mind might be worth an extra $20, but thats just me. thanks to Dave Weldon for his constant vigilance on the subject

thanks for the help. I spent > $100 per fixture and I have 3 not because price but, because the timer set up is phenominal and easy to use. If I need to take acham to the vet, which I work hard to aviod I would. If an animal is sick you care for it, regardless of price. Had my big guy in for surgery on his eyes last wek and the vet was impressed with is health, they were most likely calcium deposits -biopsy will be back next week. The other 2 are fine.

Shanksfaml, you are using the zilla fixture correct? But what is the actual bulb being used?

To everyone else, are reptisuns safe to use in zilla fixtures? i would imagine that they are.
Edit: Assuming the bulb is linear

Howdy,

The tricky part here is that the OP is using a T5 (5/8" tube diameter) fixture which won't accept a standard T8 (8/8"=1" diameter) sized tube like the Reptisun linears. There are also wattage differences to worry about which is why you can't mix T8 and T12 tubes even though the pin connections are compatible . You can use the old Zilla fixtures that use the 18" T8 tubes and just put in a Reptisun 18" linear which happens to be a T8.
