Swollen lips

Just got a new ambilobe and his lips/the edge of his mouth is slightly swollen and showing a little black in the area. Should this be any major concern? or is this maybe from his recent shedding or just from eating. He still has a healthy appetite and seems fine.
Thanks

It could be something serious, like mouth rot. What does the mouth look like inside? Is it also discoloured? And is there any sign of mucous in the mouth?
Without pics, it would be hard for anyone to tell. Could you post some photos?

You should probably take him to the vet to be on the safe side.

It might be nothing serious, but even if that is the case - you say that you have recently acquired the cham: it will be a good opportunity for a routine check-up and parasite screening. It's always good to do that when you get a new cham.

Howdy,

I would be concerend with swelling around the lip and especially if it is black. It doesn't take long for an infection around the mouth to end-up in the jawbone. While you are making an appointment with a qualified chameleon vet, post a few well-focused photos of the area along with photos of his enclosure setup. While you are at it, take a look at the "Sticky: How to ask for help " at the top of this section and answer as many of the questions as you can. All of this helps sort things out.

Where in the world are you located?
