Support a canopy top?

So I am planning to get a new screen enclosure for my veiled. The best option so far for the space is a 22"wide x 18.5"deep x 36"tall from tiki tiki reptiles. Has anyone ever built a canopy top to hide the light fixtures from view? I am trying to make this work in the main living area of the house and still make my wife happy:). I don't know if these cages can support the weight of a wood top or if I will have to build supports from the base cabinet.

A good place to search canopy "box" tops is the Reef Forum (Reefcentral.com etc.)
The saltwater crowd are all over this sort of thing.

Basically you are looking at the same thing. :)

A nice looking "box" with light fixtures in it to set on top.
Cheers!

we wanted to hide the light fixtures also so we built a canopy to sit on top. we also have SW aquariums, thats where we got the idea. use some type of lite wood for the frame and skin, i bet it would hold up...
here's ours...

Looks awesome! That's similar to what I was thinking of doing. Now I know its a good idea. I'll probably use some thin birch that's easily stained, and some 1 x 2 poplar. Not sure yet. I think I just gave myself a big project!
