I recently acquired (December 30th) a sub adult male Trioceros q. quadricornis that was imported from West Africa in mid-December. I picked him up directly from the importer's store, so he has had less stresses than others from that shipment.
He's doing well and eating.
People who are experienced with the species have told me that over supplementation is an issue.
I've just started lightly dusting the crickets. Crickets are gut-loaded with a variety of fresh veggies and greens that have a high Vitamin A content. I put in a pinch or two of whatever supplement I am using, shake the bag, empty it and then add the crickets.
It seems that most of the quad keepers supplement three days a week with calcium and one day a week or so with some sort of vitamin, either Herptivite or Repashy Calcium Plus.
I have:
Rep-Cal Calcium (no D3, no phosphorus)
Zoo Med's Repti Calcium (with D3, no phosphorus)
Repashy Calcium Plus LoD (which has about 80% of the Vitamin D3 per unit of weight that the Repti Calcium with D3)
Would a program of 3 x per week with plain calcium and once every 10 days for Repashy Calcium Plus LoD sound good? Or should I stretch the Repashy out to every two weeks? Should I get another vitamin that doesn't have D3 in it?
He still has some growing to do, but he isn't really small weighing 42 grams last time I weighed him three days ago. He's gained weight, partly from rehydration but also from growth.
Thanks.
