So as a few of you know i currently own a solar glo 125 watt for my chameleon. that will be changing very soon. i have recently learned that they are pretty much worthless. not over powered (as some of you correctly feared. the old ones were) here is the link to where i recieved my info http://www.beardeddragon.org/bjive/viewtopic.php?p=1023321 . i also heard the same from a local pet store(private owned) that measured it with a solarmeter. i am furious.:mad::mad:

They're ok for a small free range :) I got suckered into buying one along with my Cham too, £50 it cost me! Can't get rid of it so I use it to shine on a tree by the window for some outside the cage time.

P.s. remember that beardies require a lot more heat and UVB than chameleons do just because its a poor choice for a beardie doesn't mean it won't do for other reptiles.

This is why most of us who have been doing this for a while say to use linear ZooMed 5.0 or 10.0 if you have a tall cage. Stick with what is proven in my mind. Also, I have a meter to keep an eye on things, it's worth it in my mind.

I only think MV lamps are good if you have a meter and I wouldn't use one unless it was for a basking spot in a free range. I have done this before. It was a used lamp and there were other basking areas, all with correct UVB exposure from linear ZooMed lamps.

the out put is weak even for a chameleon :(

how close would it have to be?

This depends on the readings Dr. Baines has measure. I can't seem to located the specs she has found. We don't know if the 29 output is at the lamps surface or at 10" from the lamp. If that is the output at 6-8", you are fine. But I think it would be a huge waste of money to spend on a single lamp that isn't putting out the amount of UVB it should. Remember, this is for desert animals, not rainforest. Just stick to the linear UVB lamps. DIY cages makes a nice dual linear unit. I really like it and use one on my display cage at reptile shows.

yes i think ill go with the linear asap.

Yes the 125 w sucks but the 160w are great. Not for chams of course but desert species 160w is the only way to go or the new arcadia MV
