Sun vs artificial

Just doing some reading and curious if you have your chameleon outside for a half the day when the weather permits, do you still want to run your artificial UVB the remainder of the day. Since the sun provides so much Did not know if you would over do it the rest of the day with artificial UVB.

May be a stupid question but hey I am a question kind if gal. :D

I keep my chameleons outside 24/7.. IMO, they cannot receive too much sun (even if they are in the shade cooling down, they get light), so I'd keep the bulb going.. But I wouldnt use it for more time than there is actual sunlight.

Thanks! I figured but inquiring minds wanted to know. :)

I wish the temps around here would allow that, my dragons would love it but unfortunately I can only get them out there 6 or so months out of the year and only for short periods

Aah, the pleasure of living in south florida..perfect weather year round.. even if there is a storm during summer, wait 5 minutes and you'll have clear blue skies! :D

UVB exposure, whether it is through outdoor or artificial, fills the cham's d3 up to full and keeps it topped up.

Vitamins and supplements try to fill d3 past full and that's where problems are.

Essentially it is best to give your cham the opportunity to UVB-regulate during daylight hours every day.

What I'm saying is, it can't hurt at all if you want to add UVB lights on top of Sun exposure...it is more beneficial than harmful...adding d3 supplements to any UVB exposure is the dangerous part.
