Suggestions for my Newton Bloodline 2-3 month old cham

So I got a new veiled chameleon (Newton Bloodline), and he is really skiddish. I researched all about veiled chams and so I've been doing all the recommendations (misting frequently, not a drip system but a waterfall since reviews on drip systems were bad, I have a hydrometer and it normally stays in the 60s to 90s), I fed him 5 crickets when he got here but it took a while and I'm not sure if he ate them or if they may be hiding in the terrarium. He seemed too stressed to eat when I was watching as he would hide behind branches kind of mocking my movement. Should I stay back a bit from handling and such or should I be more aware or does anyone have recommendations or suggestions for this to make him not so skiddish? Is he just not used to people or is this a bad sign?

My first chameleon was from the Newton bloodline, too, although that was many years ago. He was never friendly and had no interest in interacting with people whatsoever. What you're experiencing is nothing out of the ordinary and it is most definitely best to leave your guy alone and just let him settle into his home. Since you mentioned you have done your research, I assume you know that most chameleons are not a pet you should handle much (if at all)
