hi was at my cousins house today he keeps cham veiled he uses bark as subtrate an says this is the best thing to use but i use fine sand i have heard of this being a digestive problem but is this true? please help

No substrate is the recommendation here.
The main reasons are:
cleanliness
avoiding possible impaction

It much easier to keep a bare floor clean and there is the danger of your chameleon ingesting substrate material and causing a digestive problem.

i have a heat mat inside the viv so i really need something to go on the bottom i have built my own viv out of wood and i live in the uk so its well cold over here

Heat mats are not recommended either.

why do you need a heat mat if chams never touch the ground. at night you nedd no heat...and the heat on those only travels a few inches...
So why?

no strate, use something basic, paper towels, newspaper, a towel, anything you can clean often, completely remove often, and clean the hole bottom....

k thanks guys so i will defo be ok then with no heat mat an subtrate i live in a cool climate an just worried that it goin to get to cold for them in the night the temp is usually 67-68f so if i take the mat away is it goin to drop to low for them sry bout all questions just dont want them ill

that temp is good as a night temp

Even 58 to 60 degrees f. is an acceptable night time temp.
