Stubborn Jackson

I got a new baby jackson in january. he has done well eating til the last week or so. He has decided he doesn't want any kind of feeder. I have tried mealworms, wax worms, silk worms, butter worms, horned worms, and crickets. He doesn't want any of them. The breeder I got him from sent phoenix worms with him and he seemed to really like those but i can't buy them here. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Maybe he's about to shed. My jackson will stop eating just before a shed.

Mail order? Check with the breeder to see where he gets his, and whether you can have some shipped to you. If he's got good body weight now maybe a bit of "tough love" (ie hunger) will get him going. Also try flying insects. Most chams really get into shooting at flies. Again, you'll probably have to order them.

No he wasn't mail order. I got him in Calgary, Ab he was shipped to that breeder from toronto, Ont.
He hasn't dropped in weight at all. What I listed are the only feeders i can get in my town. Crickets and meal worms are the main ones, most pleas don't bring in many of the others.

yeah i have to find someone closer. a lot of times bringing bugs across the country results in a lot of dead bugs especially with how cold it is out east.

My panther never stops eating either, but my jackson will.

Try flies, either house flies or blue bottle flies, jacksons love them and it will usually bring them off of a hunger strike.

Im in canada, it will be awhile before we have flies, but i will try that

When they are small, none of my chams lost their appitite at all when about to shed. Only when they are a year or older do they eat less, or not at all, when shedding.

Have you re-checked all your temps, esp his basking temp?

I agree with the flies, esp the blue bottle flies, I have never seen any cham not go crazy for them. They are a wonderful feeder to get their appitite stimulated

You can get larve at Cabella's I have heard - Walleye bait - I've heard - phoenix worms are sold here in pet stores under the name - calci worms also
If you can find the larve you have to hatch it out - check the thread on -blue bottle flies in the food section

his temps are good. i check all the temps in my cages daily.

Thats good, temps can fluctuate as the room temp changes.

That's really stinks mine absolutely goes bonkers for them. If he is being finicky that's what I always get him eating with. But I have found that Jackson's aren't the eaters veiled or panthers are. Just had that same conversation here the other day. They're more the snaky type.

it does suck.
i don't think he's sick, he's active and still drinking lots.
