stressed chameleon help?

I have about a 4 month old veiled chameleon. He used to be so bright but I noticed he is darker in color now. Hisses every time I try and grab him. But when I do grab him he is lively and active. I'm afraid he is getting stressed though. I'm not holding him anymore in hopes he will become less stressed. Is there any other methods that can help that?
I feed him about 6 crickets a day. Mist him well. I try not to spray him because I know he doesn't like that also. But yeah. Just afraid that he might die on me.
