Strange poop

Hi,

Today Neelix did an odd poop. It looked basically like a semi-digested cricket. It was round with legs in it. Should I be concerned? In hindsight, I should have taken a picture, but in my disgust it went straight in the bin.

What's the temperature at the basking site?
From what I've read it could be
A) temps are constantly too low to digest properly
B) parasites, has he been tested?
C) a bacterial infection (which I know nothing about!)

His basking temp is sitting at 83 at the moment, but I'm constantly having to adjust his thermostat to keep it there. I've been feeding him about 4 hours before lights out, is that maybe not long enough for him to digest before bed?

He hasn't been tested for parasites.

I hope it's not a bacterial infection, but his cage smells weird... I've cleaned his branches and plants, and I change the paper at the bottom twice a day, but the funny smell is still there. Also, he's been stalking the bottom of his cage in the evenings, which seems weird?

I would say get rid of the stat and keep the temp constantly the same at his basking. Temp seems fine for his age in looks of your avatar.
you may want to feed him a little earlier in the day like morning and afternoon so he can metabolize it and him basking will help which he probably does less towards te end of the day.
Are you getting good drainage through your plants? Sitting water in soil can smell pretty foul. I put rocks in the bottom of my pots to help and you can plant with half sand to help it drain through as well or peatmoss. Preferably sifted if you allow him access to the soil.

ok, thanks for advice. :)

I'll stop fiddling around with his thermostat & feed him earlier & see if that sorts it out.

Not sure about the drainage on his plants, so that might well be the smell. I'm getting his some new plants tomorrow so I'll try and sort out the drainage then.

Most care sheets that I have read recommend feeding your chameleon about 30 minutes after turning the lights on in the morning.

To me the stat just seems like it would keep it on and off constantly.
Id go get a fecal too. I'm probably going to just take my girls in as a check up kind of since I got her from a pet store.
if there is any sitting water it will def stink I've already learned my lesson with my plants and threw them out and got new ones. Hope he's doin alright and everything's well:)

I hope he's ok too, he likes to worry me.

I'm not sure how to adjust his heat lamp without the thermostat attached?

He's also developed a habit of walking on the bottom of his cage in the evenings.

Tomorrow he might have a new cage- in which case I'll post all the new set-up to check it's ok and his basking spot is ok.

I think it'll be worth registering him with my local vets on Monday and speaking to their exotic pet specialist.

You can adjust the temperature by either hanging the lamp above the enclosure andhanging it closer/farther away or you could put the dome (if it's a dome lamp) on top of planks of wood on the top of the enclosure. The closer the lamp is to the basking area, the hotter it will be. Farther away is cooler:)

Ah thanks, that's logical :)
