Strange behavior - should I be worried?

Your Chameleon - Male, Veiled. 8 Months old (approx), had him since June.

Handling - Daily - at least once, only because he rushes the door whenever it's open, or even when we're in the room sometimes.

Feeding - He usually eats about 7-10 Crickets daily along with, mealworms, supers, butterworms and hornworms on occasion. Staple diet is crickets, worms as occasional treats. Wet gutload varies with Romaine, Carrots, Oranges, Apples, Collard Greens, Dandelion Greens, and Strawberries. Dry gutload is: Quick Oats, Dried Kelp, Sesame Seeds, Ground Ginger, Dried Basil, Garlic Powder. All of his feeders are dusted.

Supplements - Every cricket is dusted with Repti Calcucium (without d3), and every other week I give him Exoterra Mutli and Repti cal with d3.

Watering - We use a reptirain misting system that goes off for one minute every 3 hours. During shedding time we provide warm mists once or twice a day. Installed a dripper a couple weeks ago.

Fecal Description - Never been tested for parasites as far as I know. He goes at least once a day, and it's white and dark brown.

History - I bought him from a local reptile specialty store / reptile zoo. They only had him a day, but said he was from a breeder in Russia. Don't know the significance of that, if any.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - 2x2x4' tall wooden enclosure, all sides have aluminum mesh screen.

Lighting - Exoterra Repti Glo 5.0 (linear tube), 1-60W and 1 75W basking light (on one side of the cage), both on dimmers. They go on at 8am, go off around 8pm. I also have a small grow light tube in there for extra light, and to help the plants out a bit. It's only on for about 5-6 hours a day.

Temperature - Basking is usually 85*F - 90*F, Ambient is usually 70 - 80 during the day. Lowest overnight was 55*. We measure with a digital dual purpose thermometer and hygrometer.

Humidity - 10 - 50 % Humidity, maintained through misting system that goes off for 60 seconds, every 3 hours. I'm having a hard time keeping the humidity up in his cage. I have a humidifier in the same room - afraid to put it in the cage, because it emits heated steam. Although the humidity is low, he is still hydrated, and always gets the extra attention when he's shedding. His sheds are partial, but usually don't last longer than 2 days.

Plants - 2 Golden Pothos, a small Dracaena at the bottom, and a bunch of fake foliage.

Placement - In the corner, between two windows, in my dining room. I have four cats that don't pay any attention to him. But other than that, it's only my husband and myself.

Location - Ontario, Canada (Weather has been hovering around 1-10*C around here lately).

My Issue: About mid-day, every day, every time we come near the cage, Mr.Pink rushes the door trying to get out. He climbs right onto our hands. If we let him get out on his own, he usually gravitates to the window next to his cage. We haven't been able to get him outside like we usually do, so maybe that's the problem. Why else would he want to come out so excessively?

We can't keep him out of the cage for long, and definitely cannot let him roam wherever he wants, or provide a freerange for him because of our cats. It's way too cold to bring him outside right now.

Should I increase his UVB to 10?

You should be just fine leaving him be but maybe look to add more plants or horizontal perches for him. I wouldn't take his willingness to be handled as a bad thing at all. I dream of the day when my guys rush to their door so they can be let out.

He's 8 months old, so it may be that he's at that age where he's starting to get antsy looking for a female. A few of my boys went through restless phases at about this age and I think it was sexually motivated. They calmed down a few weeks later but they did go through this phase.

If you can give him some FR time at all he might appreciate the exercise. Like, put a plant on a desk in your bedroom and close the door, so you work on the computer and he gets to stretch his legs safely?

He's got tonne's of branches and hiding spots. I think if I gave him anymore, he would suffocate in there :p

I posted some some-what recent pictures here: https://www.chameleonforums.com/mr-pinks-happy-boy-118797/

I have an extra bedroom that my husband and I are not doing anything with. We were considering moving his cage up there for the winter, but I like your idea better. I'd have to do some setting up, but I can see this as a good option for him.

I'd rather not get a female for him right now. That's a bit too much for us to take on at the moment.

Do you think moving his cage in front of the window will help curve his wandering? He seems to gravitate to it, and will just sit on the blinds and look outside if we let him.

Mr. Pink is looking very handsome! My boy has been on the prowl lately too, he is 11 months old. I attributed it to looking for a lady friend as well. I did move his cage to in front of a window and that does help the front of the cage stalking but really they just have to grow out of it. Kind of the teenage boy/grown man mentality. They do chill out eventually. :)

Ok sounds like I haven't got much to worry about. Thanks for your advice!

Hopefully once he starts to calm down, he'll still want to come out from time to time.
