Storm from hell!

Here in utah we rarely rarely see tornados. Their was one about 10 years ago and thats the only one i have ever heard of. But we get a wind we call "east wind" We have a mountain range that is "straight" for alooong ways to the east of us called the wasatch front. Saltlake and lots of smaller towns and cities live right on the bench. Mine included. Their is a high pressure in wyoming and a low pressure in neveda and arizona. In the spring and fall times they meet and cause the wind to go right over the mountain and come screaming down into the towns. We had 110 mile an hour winds and some points and constantly in the 70-80 range. Pine trees that are 50-100 years old were blown onto power lines, houses and cars causing the power to be out. Ours came on last night (40 hours later) and some folks wont have it till sunday or monday. We have 4 different cities power crews just in my city. The local golf course had 400 trees blown down.

Luckily we have a wood burning stove in our house. I moved my chams cage into that room to keep her warm. She was getting very stressed from all the people in a single room with kids playing so we had to tell everyone they had to be quiet and not so crazy (kids) she would be fine one moment and then turn dark dark roaming her cage and floor as fast as ive ever seen a chameleon move. After that i didnt want to pack her up to go to a family members house with power because i didnt want to put even more stress on her. Now that her lights are on and back in her room she is doing much better. I was getting very scared i was going to lose her..

Moral of the story.. Even though YOU personally have never experienced a power outage that lasted more than a couple hours, have a plan for it. My parents have lived here their whole lives (58 years) and never had the power off more than a couple hours. I didn't think i needed a plan for the chams for power outage before this. So be prepared!

Where I live, power outages are the norm in winter. I make sure I am well prepared. Maybe I will do a thread on it. Hope is ok for your cham.

Here in Miami, we get power outages whenever we have a hurricane. We didn't have power for a month after hurricane Wilma. It is a lot harder than people think....

it is indeed harder than i ever thought it was. I am SO thankful for everything i have now. Kinda ridiculous it took that storm for me to realize it though. If i wouldnt of had that stove, we would of had to leave our home like most people did. Its cold cold at night. It just like... never happens here so it was a shock to everyone.
