Still researching

Went to a show yesterday and spent an hour pestering a breeder haha. I resisted the urge to buy one even though they kept lowering the price. Building the viv hasn't happened yet so didn't want to do a mad rush setting up.
Still torn on what one to get. I'm down to veiled or panther. Leaning more to the veiled at this point but the colors of the panthers can just be so intense.

Anywho the real reason i'm posting is more knowledge.
When setting up a free range area for evenings 4ish till 8 should i buy an extra uv strip for there?
Should i set up a basking spot in it as well and if so would a MVB work so that i could do both at once?

Welcome to the forums. This is a great place to learn about chameleons and meet other keepers. I'm glad to see you researching before buying. I wish everyone would. At the bottom I'll attach my blog for new keeps for how I have had success keeping veileds and Panthers and a link to some excellent chameleon info provided by this wonder forums.

Panthers are gorgeous but so are veileds. I keep veileds and they are such a pleasure to work with with so much personality. You can see my veileds here: https://www.chameleonforums.com/my-beautiful-veileds-142194/

I have also had panthers and just lost my last one back in June. I still miss him every single day. If you are interested you can go to my profile page and I have albums of all my current and past chameleons.

When you do buy I highly recommend buying a male from a small personal breeder to make sure you get a well cared for animal that's had plenty of attention. A show is not the best place to buy. I can also recommend some small time breeders that I know if you are interested.

Good luck to you in your new venture and post plenty of pictures of your set up and your chameleon when you get one. :)

What are some of the small breeders you are talking about?

Scott is a great breeder to deal with I just got a Panther from him he is amazing I highly recommend getting ahold of him very pleased with his service and panther.

I am speaking with Dez right now. Provided my wife approves I will be getting one from him. She doesn't like the idea of shipping reptiles anymore. Last BD we had sent to us the box was treated very poorly and he showed up with a broken jaw.
This is the one I'm most likely getting.

They are not to replace misting and dripping but some chameleons like them and some don't and you have to spend allot of time cleaning them. Here's an older thread about them.

I like to go on fishing trips every couple weeks in the spring through fall and thought this may be good for that. I only ever stay gone for a day, 36hours ish. I have been thinking about a mistking since I have 13 dart frog vivs but just never pulled the trigger.

MistKings are very nice. I have two that are over 8 years old and still going strong.
