Steve is sick :(

I think my male veiled Steve is sick. I took him out of his cage yesterday and he slept on my finger and now I just went to check on him and he is dozing off in his terrarium. He has been eating well and I have my eye on the humidity level all day long and spray when necessary. I don't have 50 bucks to do a check up on him so if someone could Plz help that would be great. Thanks

This is where he is sleeping. I just woke him up on accident but I got this picture He is under the UVB light

Well I just called petsmart and the manager said if I bring my receipt in tomorrow he said he can get me an appointment for free so hopefully I will have answers tomorrow. I just don't want him to die :(

i hope the vet has reptile experience and the visit goes well! its good you are able to get him in to a vet :) i still recommend filling out the "how to ask for help form" so that experienced members here can possibly give you an idea of what is going on if you are willing to!

The manager said it is a reptile vet so hopefully he knows his stuff! And I'm on my phone so I will fill it out when I can get to my Mac lol

Thats good! Let us know how the vet vist goes!

Kay lol, ill check it out whenever you post it up :)

I hope Steve starts feeling better!

please fill out the form. If you bought him from petsmart they may have sold you the wrong lighting. It could be as simple a fix as that. We have to see what you are using in your set up.

Looks like your suppliments need to be adjusted is the first thing that I saw. You should only be doing D3 twice a month. This is from the care guide located here: https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/caresheets/veiled/

These care guides are amazing tools!

Supplementation:
Calcium and other vitamins are very important to your chameleon's health. Feeder insects should be lightly dusted with powdered supplement before being fed to your chameleon. Many keepers successfully use calcium (without D3 or phosphorus) at nearly every feeding, multivitamin once every 2 weeks, and calcium with D3 once every 2 weeks.

Also it looks like your feeding needs to be changed as well. Here is the cut and paste from the care guide:

Feeding:
Veiled chameleons are more omnivorous than most chameleon species and many enjoy munching on plant leaves and fruit in addition to using their long sticky tongue to catch live insects. Great feeder insects include crickets, silkworms, hornworms, butterworms, dubia roaches and superworms. Waxworms and mealworms are high in fat content and harder to digest so should only be used on occasion. The rule of thumb is to not feed insects that are longer than the width of your chameleon's head.

Neonates: as many small crickets as they can eat several times a day
Juveniles 3-6 months of age: 10-12 small crickets daily
Juveniles 6-12 months of age: 10-12 medium crickets every other day
Adults over 12 months of age: 7-10 medium-large crickets every other day

Chameleons should be fed in the first half of the day to give them time to bask and digest their food properly. Crickets need to be properly gutloaded with calcium rich vegetables several hours before being fed to your chameleon. Inadequate dietary calcium leads to metabolic bone disease, a very serious illness. Commercially available gutloads usually aren't properly balanced or sufficient for good nutrition. See Chameleon Food for more information.

Just throwing this out there.. is the room brightly lit?

Sometimes the cage lighting just isn't enough. I keep the room lights on all day, as well as the curtains open. The cage isn't the only area that should be well lit, or completely dark.

This may not be the issue at all, but sometimes it can be the most simple of problems. You never know!

I have put crickets in there multiple times and he won't eat them and no my room is dark the only lights on are they ones in the cage. And I have a mealworm dish high up in his cage and this is where he gets his worms from. So should I put lettuce and stuff in there because he down eat the leaves from his live plant

I would get some other feeders like small silks as well. Maybe the crickets you offered were too large. But I would offer more food then you are right now. Also the suppliments are a huge deal. Need to get calcium every day and not give the D3 every day. You can overdose the D3 is my understanding.

Ok I will get different suplements but I was trying to feed him 1/4 inch crickets and he didn't want them. What kind of non living foods can I feed him. Like strawberries or something else cause I want him to eat better.

I'm not sure on the vegetation part and hope that someone with a veiled will chime in. I am new to chameleons myself, but have been doing TONS of research and asking lots of questions on here and everyone has been very helpful. We will all help you do the best for you little cham!

Have you tried offering small silk worms at all?

The supplements need to be changed ASAP! d3 poisoning is a concern here as Video Master said. he needs to be on a supplementing schedule of calcium without d3 or phosphorous every day, calcium with d3 once every 2 weeks and a multivitamin once every two weeks.

mealworms are not a staple food, they should only be used as treats as they are fatty and very high in chitin so they are hard to digest. he needs some different feeders. i would try some smaller crickets and see if he goes for them. dont offer the meal worms for awhile, just offer crickets and he should take to them after a couple days. it sounds like he doesnt want to try them sort of like a hunger strike for treats like meal worms. i agree trying silk worms, hornworms, things like that would be great too, variety is important! here is a link to a great blog about different feeders and how much they can make up of a chams diet. https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/74-feeders.html
this blog has a great recipe for gutloading your feeders also as this is a huge part of keeping your cham healthy, this is how they get most of their nutrition https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/75-feeder-nutrition-gutloading.html

how long has it been since he pooped? mealworms are hard to digest so they could cause constipation which may or may not cause him to sleep more but needs to be dealt with if he is constipated!

is there any way you could get the temp down more around 70-72 at night time? it is good for their metabolism to have a temp drop at night :)

as for veggies, this thread has a list of fruits and veggies veileds have been known to like. some will eat them, some wont. they are basically only for treats(so he cant have a lot! once or twice a week at most!) as they need to be getting their nutrition from a variety of properly gutloaded feeders! you could try one or two of them a week and see what he likes. https://www.chameleonforums.com/veiled-cham-veggies-106961/

I will try to purchase silk and hornworms and get the vitamins he needs. I feel so dumb and I wasn't aware of all of this. I hope he doesn't die because of my stupidity :(
