step one: collect 47 mantis ooth - step 2: help??

I went out today and collected 47 mantis pods - (don't worry- i left many alone too- so as not to wipe out the population )
so, do I just put them in a box, a cage, heat or no heat - I have never tried to hatch these things ( but once when my son was young, he put about 20 in his toy box and never told me - we have mantis nits EVERYWHERE in his room in March - try picking those up !! lol )
how long do they take ? I want to save some to start a new population on the other end of our property- but I would like to try to hatch a few now- can someone tell me how to do it ? ( I have pin heads and fruit flys to feed them )

Do you know what species? and if you plan on hatching all those i would recommend getting some deli containers They are tiny and will not stay still so put them each in the deli container with a ventilated lid. Not sure how to exactly hatch them as i have only hatched out one but i always have bad luck with them

Thats like 5000 mantis right there! How and where do you find them????

I set mine up in deli cups with the ooth glued to the lid. Lightly mist them daily. Even lighter once they hatch as its quite simple to drown the nymphs. They look like chinese mantid ooths, which is probably what they are

Wow Cheryl, how fast you toss friends in the trash. I may talk to Olive and have her try to bite you again!!

Do as Alex said. That is how most of us keep them.

That's awesome! You can put some of the ooths in the fridge to hatch out later.

#1 Easy way-Put them in a paper lunch sack, fold over the top tightly, put in your Cham room, at about 78 degrees, they will hatch in about 2-4 weeks.

#2 Need a breathable lid. If you glue the ooth to a deli cup lid, place the "zipper" hanging down, the nymphs hatch out along that line where the ooth material flows together.

Once they hatch, you need fruit flies ready, they do eat each other....

its the Carolina mantis ( in Ohio - )

how long do they take to hatch ? I do not need 1 million all at one time and how big do I let them get before I feed them to her ?
( I already put like 30 outside in the barn in a box, those are going to be placed back in the yard after this bad cold spell - we are having -5, and then -15 below 0 for the next few days and I did not want all of them to freeze , we have not had that kind of cold in a long time )

thats not funny telling Olive to bite me - SHE WILL - and I have to take her out of her cage to re-do her plumbing - I got her a new set up until the cage comes in - i really did not want to take her out- but I have to do so much to the cage, she will freak out if I leave her in it -

these came from my friends house up the road - I left way more than I took, she hates them - lol there are so many in the summer she wont go in her front yard- they are on everything in front yard, every bush, even on the side of the house- we are in Wood co. Ohio - most I am letting stay in the yard ( so I can let them breed- they love the sweet pea flowers, and are in them by the 100's )

ummmm 5,000 mantis- ok, yes, I am NOT letting these hatch all at once
