staying next to UVB?

The baby cham I just got yesterday has been sitting right up against the top of the enclosure right under the UVB for a lot of the day... I don't know if its bad but its worrying me and on top of that he has "yawned" several times that I've seen which I've come to understand as too hot so I've adjusted my temperatures with little results... He still yawns... I tried misting more... Still yawns... What is this sounding like?

the yawns are a territorial display for baby chameleons.

I wonder if he can't see his reflection or another chameleon or something?

I put his cage around a bend in our apartment to shy away from him seeing Stanley our other male... But the territorial jist makes sense... top of the enclosure as well... I think you may be right... I haven't had the ability to make his cage above eye level yet so that may be why he is doing al that but it shouldn't be a problem him being that close to the bulb right? as long as its not hot??

I think it is no problem for him to be that close to the bulb, but it does make me wonder why.

Does he have another light for heat?

Is the location cool?

Is the location more secluded and visually isolated than the rest of the enclosure?

The other thing he may simply be trying to produce more d3.

But the fact that he's displaying while hanging out there kind of makes me think something is going on- he can either see something from there or hide from something from there maybe.

Maybe anyway.

He could just be feeling "uppity" when it comes to the territorial displays.

Does he have another light for heat? Yes he has a 60 watt bulb with a dimmer that also controls temperature with a wide hood to spread the light out over the entire cage

Is the location cool? Yes the location IS cooler than the rest of the enclosure so I've found...

Is the location more secluded and visually isolated than the rest of the enclosure? It is more secluded... The UVB stands directly over the ficus on the left side of the cage...

Now that you mention reflection though... His cage is in the same room with a wall made of mirror (cliche 70's I know not my choice) but that wall is 10-12 feet away but it IS facing it... could that be the problem?

Its possible, I am amazed at the things Samson is able to pick up and observe when he is outside, from birds and airplanes high in the sky to squirrels running around the grass.

A lot of chameleons will put on their brightest, most intimidating colors when they see another male. Is your guy way more colorful than you have seen in the past when he is "yawning?"

Maybe.

Watch and see what you think.

Or try taping some paper on the outside of his cage or something so he cannot see the mirrored wall and see if his behavior changes.

Or try moving the lighting around and see if he moves to the new location of the UVB tube.

@SilkySlim he is less than like a month old lol so color change is from brown to slightly darker brown right now but I see what your getting at... Idk maybe Im catching him do it because he wants me to catch him doing it... And I will try moving the bulb... I didn't think of that
