Standard Sambava

I just noticed that my baby doesn't have the standard U bar that Sambavas are known for. He has more of a circle with a bar attached to it. I was just wondering how common it was to have this odd barring and if it might affect offspring. If I ever did breed him in the distant future it'd be for the experience, but I was just curious.

Oh cool, do you happen to know how common Apollo's circle on his side is?

Where did you get yours?

The circle with bar attached above it is very common in Sambava females. Some young males may show this, too, when they are showing their lightest coloration. Do you happen to have a focused pic of the base of his tail? How old is he?

He's three months old. My girlfriend got him for me as an early present. I don't have a camera right now, but I'll ask her to bring hers over. She also has a 5 month old female sambava, and she said she couldn't see his bulge, but she also said she isn't really familiar with sexing panther babies. However, mine is quite a bit bigger than hers for the age difference, (s)he's(?) almost .25 inches larger (snout to vent) than her female.

I'll try to post pics with a straight tail as soon as possible.

Sorry some of the pictures are a bit blurry since he kept trying to run away.

Isn't he a little too colorful to be a female?

Our little females flash reds like that. The tail base does look female to me, but I could be wrong. Hopefully some others will take a look and give their opinion.

Does anyone else have an opinion? :) Just want to be extra sure he is really a she before I try to send her back for a male.

I don't really want to start a new thread, but I will if I have to. I just want to be extra sure about him/her before I try to find him/her a new home because I don't think I can handle a female as a first chameleon.

Anyone else have any idea?

I may have missed it , but did you say where you got it?

You will not have a problem raising a female , they are not any harder than a male as long as you have the correct info.

Am I allowed to post names?

I was also kind of set on getting a male first too :) the colors blow me away.

I don't think you are complaining but, Maybe its best if you don't . Good point.

I know all about wanting a male. That is one awesome looking cham either way. If you get stuck with a girl. Send me a PM and I will help you get a nice male.

If it is one of the site sponsors they would be able to help you out. I am sure any of them would work with you in the event it is a female. Have you contacted the seller?

He's not a site sponsor, my girlfriend asked about his barring but not his gender. We want to be sure he's a she first. I'd keep her if I had another cage and furnishings, but I can't right now.
