Stain and polyurethane combo

Has anybody used this product to stain their diy wooden cages? Would this work or is it better to just get polyurethane and stain separately?

Probably doesn't really matter as long as the products are not oil/petroleum-based and are allowed to fully cure before using the wood. If you stain first, make sure its cured before you seal it. The sealer needs to be heavy duty water proof wherever it will get wet or stay damp.

I use polyurethane, but not where the water directly hits. Just on my cabinets/stands. If you used enough layers it should be NP. You could probably make the cage out of PVC too, instead of wood.

I have dragonstrands but I built a 2 foot substrate layer out of wood for them. I used pond liner for it though. I try to avoid wood wherever I can, not that it's a problem, but it helps me sleep at night lol.
