Spinosus Eggs!!!

Today one of my female spinosus laid eggs. She was bred in December and I tried again in January but I don't know if she actually mated with the male at that time. Regardless, today I noticed she looked a little baggy. I weighed her and she dropped .8 grams which meant she laid eggs.

This is the egg laying container and how it is set up. For size reference, it is a sandwich container. There are a lot of holes along the bottom edge for drainage and this container is hidden in the substrate of the female's cage.

After seeing them in person, I have to say they are one of my favorite looking chameleons. Ridiculous little twigs!

Congratulations!

Great work! I knew you'd get eggs some day... keep us posted! Should be a short and sweet incubation period!

Cheers,

Congratulations! How adorable. What a nice little trio. How long do they incubate?

I guess anywhere between 3 and 6 months. Mine hatched out in just over 100 days on my last clutch. Only one survived from that clutch and she's about 2 months old. Don't know for certain if it's a "she" but I want it to be a girl. :)

Short question: Do you keep your spinosus in real terras or aquariums ?

Not aquariums. Nothing glass. They each get their own small screened cage and for the females, I line all sides with coconut fiber and it is secured by zip ties. The cages are the typical all-screen aluminum cages. Here is a sample of a cage although this is not the exact cage for this female. Behind the cork bark in this cage there is an area that has a soil/sand mixture.

I believe this is what they are talking about. (Do correct me if I am wrong! :))

I wonder what they taste like... hehehe.. Can't wait to see the babies, however.

LOL That's my picture! :) That one is a male. I will take pictures of a baby tomorrow morning. I just walked back in the door from my meeting.

How big are these little guys. (like the big/little) Could they be only like 2 or 3" long? Sure are cute.

Little spinosus at 1.5 months old

By the way the rosette is angled upward makes me think it's a male. If it is, I'll name him Bert, after the late Bert Langerwerf!

This little one was hatched out on Feb. 26th making it a month and a half old.

The longest one I've had was just 3-3/4" total length. It was a female. The male in the photo above has a 10-day-old cricket in his mouth! :)
