Sperm plug problems

Hello, my name is wade, and I take excellent care of my chameleon but lately I've had a few issues with my little Morris. I brought him to the vet two days ago and she said he is fine. I still have a few questions as I'm 100% sure I knew more about my baby than she did. Anyway... He had a piece of sperm plug hanging out of him about 2 months ago. I left it there for about a week. (He was still pooping fine). Then I gave him a bath and went to pull it out. I got All that was hanging out but I could see a little still stuck in him. He's passing plugs and poops now but when he went poo today I noticed it looked hard for him. His stools were smallish for his size and I saw the rest of the half inch plug that has not come out yet!!! . He still passed his new plug and his feces (although the poo was small) but I really have no idea what to do for the little guy... Second part of this problem which is related. He is awful at drinking... No matter what I do or try he just doesn't get that he needs to drink. I know he's a shy drinker because I have caught him drinking a few times and he tends to stop when he sees me... I used to spray the top of his cage and he would drink from the top but since I put him in his new 2/2/4 cage, and gotten him a dripper, he has stopped drinking altogether from what I can tell, even when I spray the cage top which he can easily reach!!!! He stands an inch away from the drop and just stares at it... It's quite frustrating. I tried to syringe water him, and it looked like he was drinking it (I went very slowly) but then he huffed hard and blew it all out his nose.... Can anyone help me please?! He opens his mouth sometimes and his saliva is sticky but the opening isn't too frequent and his temps ace very correct! I use my temp gun at least twice a week to check. I'm almost certain he doesn't have a respiratory infection but I guess I could be wrong and maybe the vet was too. I could use some help please!

Welcome to the forums. Morris is a very handsome little man. I recommend trying to get him hydrated by feeding him moist feeders such as hornworms and silkworms. When I have my chameleons on meds that's hard on their kidneys I even wet the worm right before feeding. Have you offered him veggies and grapes? Cut grapes up into small slivers and feed him a few of those. How long do you mist for? Often you have to mist for a long time to get them in the mood to drink and for allot longer while they drink. I see you use a dripper. Are you dripping all day? Another live plant close to the top of the enclosure for the water to drip on might help too. That would give him more to drink from. I like the pothos because it holds water for a long time.

Are his urates bright white? Or tinged with orange or yellow. If they are consistently white then he is getting enough to drink. Though I agree with Jann feeding him moist foods will definitely add to his hydration.

His urates are very white. I'm a little concerned now because he's sleeping... He's been having bad dreams lately. I feed him grapes, blueberries, and the occasional raspberry or blackberry. I usually soak kale and give it to him. I also give him mustard greens. I have a live ficus in his cage and I just bought some pothos that I'm decontaminating before I give them to him. Any other advice? I became a little lax on the misting for about a month but I have been misting once to twice a day recently which I will also increase the quantity of the water for immediately. I give him about two baths a month. Here's a pic of the obstruction before I removed what I could.

I would mist 3 times a day for at least two minutes, even with your dripper... I am confused on why you think he's having bad dreams o_O. I would also stop the baths and give him showers instead.

I watch him while he's sleeping. (Lmao sounds creepy) he has started shaking his head violently and huffing. Even scratching his head like a dog a few times. Reaching for limbs in his sleep. He's super adorable and pretty friendly for a veiled. I will definitely increase the mistings.

I don't feed him any insects other than crickets but i even wet them sometimes. I feed him moist foods quite often but I've noticed these lines going down either side of his spine and it seems like a sign of dehydration. His eyes are only slightly sunken and I do give him his multivitamins and his calcium with d3 accordingly.

He definitely appears dehydrated around the eyes. I would also recommend a varied diet, and some silk worms may provide the extra moisture he needs. I have never seen my chameleon "dream" but that is not to say that yours is not. I do wonder if this is actually signs of a vitamin deficiency. Just wondering, no actual proof of this.

I got him second hand, and I know for a fact that whoever had him before me didn't take the best care of him. His crest was slightly bent which I know is deficiency of vitimins but I do give him a super varied diet of awesome greens. No cabbage or carrots or anything that blocks his d3 production. I got him when he was about two and a half months old. Here's a pic of when he was a little cutie. He was always that odd brown when he was younger. I think he's a translucent of some kind because his head is fairly white and his thumbs are pure white!

So.....just thinking here but, do you have light on when he's doing this? How are you seeing him? When he's sleeping there shouldn't be enough light to see him clearly.

I am obsessed with the little guy. I sit next to him until around 12midnight when I go to bed. I surround two sides with these awesome black covers I bought and cover the top so no light from my tv can bother him (the heat light is still on) I just heard him huffing the past few nights and put a dim light on to see what he was doing. It's pretty adorable. He acts exactly like a dog having a crazy dream.

What kind of a heat light? Does it actually put out light? Here's the deal...Chams need dark to sleep. Any light, even the red "night" light, can disrupt their sleep and cause all kinds of problems if they are not getting adequate sleep. A drop in temps at night is perfectly normal and actually good for them. Unless your house drops below 60 at night, you don't need to do heat at night. As long as they can warm up and have a good basking spot during the day.

The night light I have on him is incredibly dull. It's in absolutely no way brighter than the darkest moonlight. It's also not one of those obnoxious red lights. He falls asleep under it all the time. I leave it on so he can decide where to nap. There is a lot of room in his cage and if he wanted to get away from it he could. I've seen him choose to sleep in two different places but he prefers to be under the light.

I'm a little concerned now because he's sleeping... He's been having bad dreams lately.

A giant Primate pulled on his cock, I think he's entitled to his bad dreams.

Joking aside, I'm gonna give you the simplest solution even though I rarely chime in on panthers or veiled.

Set up a simple secure branch or two with maybe a potted plant and put it and him in the shower three times a week. The water should be room temp. Leave him in there for 15-30 mins with a real low spray from the shower head and make sure he can get out of the spray if he wants to.

This will hydrate him fully.
This will help him pass waste.
This will help with his sperm plugs (and with a little help from you when they are soaked)

Simple routine.

Chameleons are diurnal and have a parietal eye that is very light sensitive. The difference between a dull light that is on his cage and the moonlight if the proximity to him. The light is concentrated closer than the moon. You said earlier that you were concerned now because he is sleeping. If he is sleeping during the day then it is most likely bothering him.

On another note, You said you dust with a multivitamin and Calcium with D3 accordingly, what is your schedule? Do you use calcium without D3 as a daily duster?

Please know, I am just trying to help you figure this out. I would feel horrible if I saw something I thought might help and didn't say anything and then you were to have trouble later. The whole reason you came here was for help, right? I know you asked mainly about the sperm plug but these are just things I have picked out from the information you have given. He is super cool looking, I love his white toes. Veils are wonderful and have such personalities.

Yeah. I don't really have a good shower for something like that. I will try to figure something out with mine, but I don't want the soaps getting onto him which may be hard to prevent. I will figure something out to get more running water on my baby. I just feel bad because he HATES water and I have a pretty good relationship with the little guy. I'd hate to see him start to get nasty but I will do what I have to for the the health of the wee huffing beast.
