I just finished my cage today! I plan on getting a male panther chameleon (hopefully an ambanja if anyone has any *wink*) in the next few weeks and i have done EXTENSIVE research mainly thanks to this awesome forum.

Here is the 2X2X4 cage! 62997_489883182488_653322488_7274022_4349035_n.jpg

I also am going to hang a pothos in there with a few other fake hanging plants and some large grapevine for him to crawl around on :D

getting a 24 inch light hood for a reptisun 5.0 tube and also a 5.5 inch reflector dome for his basking spot with a 50 watt beam bulb.

plan on misting 2-3 times a day and feeding around 8:30 or 9 in the morning with his lights set from 8AM to 8PM. also got a dripper I'm going to fill a couple times a day.

Was very curious what is a good gutload for younger chameleons? does any certain gutload stimulate growth or color? just curious :D

and please tell me if I am not posting in the right forum. im new to this.

Hi Welcome to the Forum!!! Your enclosure looks great. Can't wait to see what it looks like when you get all the plants in it. Make sure you take lots of pics when you get your new baby.
Gut Loading crickets is the same no matter how old your cham is. You want to use fresh Fruits and veggies like kale, oranges, apples, sweet potatoes. If you do a search you'll find all kinds of info on Gut Loading. Enjoy!

Thank you guys, and do i need a humidifier? i seem to find mixed reviews on the importance of this item, i plan on watering and misting several times a day.
and eventually building a automated mister from a plan on these forums.

I personally haven't used a humidifier and my Jackson's is doing really well. But I also mist him about at least 10 min a day using a sprayer and he drinks right from the bottle and because of this I haven't had any hydration problems. But, on the other hand there are plenty of people that do use a humidifier especially during the winter in Northern climes where heating the house drys out the air. I guess it depends on the needs of your cham and what the humidity is inside his enclosure.

Commend you on planning ahead!

Hats off to you for planning ahead and doing research prior to getting your Chameleon! It shows respect for the animal.

Sounds like you are on track but also when you get your Cham if you get from a reputable breeder they will be able to assist you and guide you through what you need to do to ensure proper care & good health for your Cham.

So good luck and let us know how things go and what you end up with, it's a hard choice!!! But they bare all spectacular!
:D

Great link, Jann!
I see you've done what many cham-lovers are at least tempted to do--planted a kiss on your cham :)
Must be a rather tame cham, since I'm assuming you still have lips :D

Kudos!! to you man...awsome cage and fantastic prep...

What kind of cham you plan to get????

never mind... ambajas are awsome!!!

found my plant today! after going to about every nursery and hardware store in dallas i found an approximately 3 1/2" umbrella plant! thinned it out a little and its perfect for my enclosure! and after reading i have been sucked into a mist king :p it will let me focus more on the feeding aspect because ill know he's getting enough water and humidity will be kept constant. I feel like a little kid at christmas, the more research i do the more excited i get.

make sure you scrub down your umbrella plant to wash off the possible pesticides that they sprayed on it, dont want your cham getting sick
