Soon to be new Cham owner (again)

Hey everyone!...I just signed up to the forum a few days ago and thought I'd introduce myself. It's been about 15 years since I've had a chameleon. My 1st one was a male veiled (Zeke), and my 2nd one was a male nosy be panther (Bluto). I am very excited about getting another cham, and I have decided on a male blue bar ambilobe panther and I'll be getting him in about a week and a half and I believe he's approximately 2 1/2 months old. Can't decide between these 2 names: Tattoo or Tye Dye (spelled differently). Anywho...I finished setting up most of his enclosure this past weekend. It's a Zilla fresh air 18x12x20. Just waiting for the misting system to arrive. All supplements are on their way as well. I'm using a Reptisun 5.0 UVB and a 30 watt lamp for basking. I live in the Phoenix AZ area, and I was told by the breeder that a 40-60 watt bulb would be too much for my guy this time of year. Heck, it's like 111° here.
I was hoping I could get some feedback on my enclosure setup. Anything I need to change? Not sure if I care for the hygrometer I got. I don't think it's made to be placed in the enclosure as I believe the mist will damage it. Any suggestions? I will be upgrading to an 18x18x36 when the time is right. Will this be a good size for an adult panther? Any comments are greatly appreciated. TIA. Happy chamming! PS: the cham pic is of the sire of the baby I'm getting.

Welcome and congrats! A Male Panther will definitely need a 24"x24"x48" as an adult. I just transitioned my 6 1/2 month old into his big cage, and he's quite happy. I do like your ideas for names! Definitely suggest you visit the curettes for Panther Chameleons, and yes PICS!

Not sure why I can't add more than one pic and a it keeps getting turned sideways any help on this would be appreciated thanks

How do I attach a file to a post?

To attach a file to your post, you need to be using the main 'New Post' or 'New Thread' page and not 'Quick Reply'. To use the main 'New Post' page, click the 'Post Reply' button in the relevant thread.

On this page, below the message box, you will find a button labelled 'Manage Attachments'. Clicking this button will open a new window for uploading attachments. You can upload an attachment either from your computer or from another URL by using the appropriate box on this page. Alternatively you can click the Attachment Icon to open this page.

To upload a file from your computer, click the 'Browse' button and locate the file. To upload a file from another URL, enter the full URL for the file in the second box on this page. Once you have completed one of the boxes, click 'Upload'.

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window. You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.

What files types can I use? How large can attachments be?

In the attachment window you will find a list of the allowed file types and their maximum sizes. Files that are larger than these sizes will be rejected. There may also be an overall quota limit to the number of attachments you can post to the board.

How do I add an image to a post?

If you have uploaded an image as an attachment, you can click the arrow next to the 'Attachment Icon' and select it from the list. This will be inserted into your post and can be located where you want it displayed.

To include an image that is not uploaded as an attachment and is located on another website, you can do so by copying the full URL to the image, (not the page on which the image is located), and either pressing the 'Insert Image' icon or by typing
after it, ensuring that you do not have any spaces before or after the URL of the image. You can insert pictures from your albums (?) in this way too.

I think your setup looks pretty good. The only thing I would suggest is having a branch that's up higher and closer to his heat lamp so he can bask up closer if he wants to.

I read on this forum that the basking branch should be approx 6-8" from the bulb. This is at 7". The heat range at the basking area is about 85º and the bottom of the cage is at about 77º. Is that a good range? I can add another branch above it.

It was hard to judge how Far away the light was from the picture. My highest branch starts probably 6" from the top and goes down at a slight angle to the other side of the cage. I do this because it gives my Cham more options to bask whether he wants to be warmer closer to the light or cooler by just being a bit lower. I find This works well for a baby Cham. Right now in summer I only have a 30 Watt bulb like you're planning to get. In the winter I bump mine up to a 60 watt because winters are so cold up here in Maine. If your wattage was higher I would definitely not recommend having branches too close.

Hey Jazy, I added some more branches. Is this more suitable now? Thanks for all your help.
