i was thinking about getting a loan to start a reptile specialty store in my home town, i was wondering what sites i could go to for cheap feeders of all kinds in quantity, as well as good sites to order specialty items(suppliments, accesories, etc) as well as cages and such at cheap prices if i buy quantity, i live in canada and am having a hard time finding site, i would really appreciate any help you guys can be...thanks alot (is there sites that cater to stores for good prices???)

I guess I'm the Canadian senior?!?!

London Ontario? You realize they have some of the most restrictive bylaws on pets and animals in the province. I believe you are able to sell exotics, but owning them is quite another story.

I would start here: http://www.london.ca/By-laws/PDFs/animals2000.pdf

As for live insect suppliers... there aren't many, if at all. I don't believe there are any large scale cricket breeders in Canada (we have that dang cold weather 6 months of the year 'n all) and combine that with restrictive shipping rules. No animals or live insects can be shipped with couriers like UPS and FedEx unlike our friends south of the border. The two airlines will do it, but it is prohibitively expensive and one of them (West Jet) won't ship during those 6 months. You can get permits from Canada Post to ship insects but they certainly don't have next day service to all of Canada considering how large a country we are. Look to importing crickets from the U.S.

Roaches are illegal in Canada.

There are a few companies that breed silkworms and other soft bodied worms for the reptile trade, they may give you a discount for repetitive bulk orders. Ask around.

Rats and mice; you can breed your own cheap cheap cheap.

Couldn't tell you about where to start for supplies. Hagen? ZooMed?

Good luck,
t
