So ever since I built my new cage I've been planning on splitting it and adding a new cham. I wanted a panther, but just not dropping 300 on a chameleon. So my next option was a jackson.

I went to a local expo in my area today with the intent of buying a male jackson and for no more than $70. Found a few I like and for only $55. So then I quickly bounced around the idea of getting a pair. There was only one female left so I went for it.

Granted the female was an impulse buy. I felt ok, I have the room and have had a few chams already.

Foolishly I didn't even get the name of who I bought them from, no receipt. .nothing. I felt ok though because to me..they looked healthy.

Can you tell me what you guys think? Healthy, how old? I'm guessin about 4-5 months for each.

Judging by horn size, I would think the male to be 4 or 5 months.

Cant be sure about the female, I assume they are both CB and probably from the same clutch!?

Thank you for the reply.

I was told not the same clutch.

My other question is, does the female look gravid? At first I thought her color was due to stressful conditions yesterday. She is still really dark. I know she's only in her new home for one day. But thought she wouldve been a little more at ease by now.

I do have them together still. Thought it would be ok being they are so young but I think ik going to set up another cage for her.

Saw both of them drink. Havent fed them yet. Going to do it in a little while.

Yes, you do need to seperate them.
This could be way she is stressed and dark all the time.

If only 4 months, I would think she is not gravid, but she is not receptive
either, so being around a male will not be good for her.

Ok. I have another cage to separate them. But would they be ok in a cage 24x24x48?

I'm sure seperate cages would be best. But I'd like to have just one big cage going if possible

My 1 year old female Jax is kept in a 18" x 18" x 36" enclosure, so you have an idea of the room they should need.

I don't know why this hasn't been pointed out yet, but female Jax don't lay eggs. With that being said, they shouldn't become gravid until a time in which they are sexually mature (between 5-7mo with jax I believe) and are in contact with a male. I could be 100% wrong about this, but this is just what I remember from when I researched on my girl.

Ok well I put her in a separate cage and already she looks a better color. Guess I learned my lesson.

Now lets just hope they didn't hear my Al Green last night and no babies anytime soon.
