Sofi the Crestie Eggs

So last night I noticed our girl Sofi had dug herself in the dirt leaving her head exposed. I have been expecting her to lay and knew it was coming based on her first set she laid. (Unfortunately we found them likely too late because it had probably been a week before we found them as we were cleaning their cage) :( I still incubated them just incase, but one got moldy and caved in bad after a week. The other one, the lone egg in the photo, started to mold a little but the dent it had in it remained the same so I just cleaned off the mold and removed the surrounding dirt and relocated it in another corner. I doubt it is any good, but they always say to keep it unless youre 100% sure its infertile.

This morning I woke up to a new set of eggs and a thinner Sofi! Hopefully these are good and this time I found them in time. :)

Congrats on the eggies! I bred my cresties for the first time this year. When I uncovered the eggs I marked the top so I wouldn't turn them by accident when I moved them to the incubator. After a few days you can 'candle' them to see if they are fertile - if they are there will be a pinky/red ring inside (like a cheerio), if not they will just be yellow inside. I have had 8 healthy babies from my pair this year! The oldest are now 6 months old!

Thanks! We're so very excited! I "candled" them with my phone light the next night and there was a hint of that "cheerio" in them! :D One of the two from the 1st set went bad and caved in bad as well as molded. The 2nd one, the lone egg, got some mold but not as bad as the other one so I assumed it was mold being carried over. It LOOKS like there's some wierd development going on inside it but honestly I feel like it's just rotting inside.

I've done the research online and they say to keep them unless you're 100% sure it's infertile or until it molds. Was is wrong of me to clean off the mold from the egg that had slight mold and relocate it in the container???
