On the weekends I like to go out into the woods looking for snakes and salamanders. Not very many lizards around my neck of the woods though. Here is what I have found recently.
Ringneck snakes are littered all about the Appalachians at this time of year.
Found this nice Black Rat Snake yesterday. Well, I guess nice isnt the word. More like fiesty.
Here is a Slimy Salamander I found not long ago. Found him on top of the mountain in the rocks.
Found a bunch of Spotted Salamanders in the Frederick Watershed last weekend. Here are a few of them.
I always find the Red Back and Lead Back Salamanders which are very abundant and easy to find. If anyone would like to see pics of those Ill throw them up but they really dont get my gears cranking since they are so easy to find. Still many more species of Sallys and Snakes to find around here. Hope to get up into the higher parts and find some Timber Rattlers this summer.
