Smeegelz, my new veiled !

So after wanting a chameleon all my life, I finally convinced my wife to let me get one. I purchased the Ultimate setup kit from Screameleon and the baby veiled from FLcham. I had everything set up long before baby Smeegelz arrived. He's been doing well this past week, healthy appetite, healthy looking stool, is very active. For the most part I feel like things are fine but this being my first reptile Ive ever really had I keep thinking Im missing something. His basking spot is around 93 and there is temp variation all the way down. Reptiglo 5.0 on him and lots of plastic vines, I think Ill get real plants when he's ready for a bigger cage. Habamist is set for 30 sec every 3 hrs and I see him drink frequently. His appetite is great. feeding him 3-4 crickets 2xday and he hunts them doown quickly. I dust them with Calcium with D3 everyday and herpivite 2 x this week.

Anyways I do have 2 questions. He still has a little skin on his forehead and one of his legs from a shed about 3 days ago. Is there anything I can do to help him get rid of this or should i just be patient. Secondly, he has now become upset when I open his door or get near his cage, He bobs his head and when I was wiping poop of a branch he hissed at me, he didnt do this the first 5 days. Is this a sign that he feels like this is his territory and hes angry about me being there, or is he too stressed.

I am going to post some picks here shortly so you can see my new buddy and his cage !

After the first day I realized he needed more area to climb so I added two more vines and plants

congratz to the cham, veileds are usualy territorial (males mostly) and are pretty much the grumpy chams sometimes, though many can change to be nice, it all depends really

you can mist lukewarm water at him to help aid in removing excess/stuck shedding, other than that be pattient

the first couple of weeks you should just leave him alone...other than that he just needs to face the fact you are cleaning,

maybe try handfeeding to calm him down???

goodluck and post more pics

Just a note you shud not be using cal d3 everyday he shud only het that twice a month he shud be getting reg cal everyday he receives some d3 from sunlight an you give him some twice to make up for what he doesn't get from living outside be shud be given cAl everyday an multi vitamin and cal wit d3 twice a month

Also you said his basking temp is 93. thats way to hot, baby veileds like temps under 90, closer to 85.

thats a nice set up you have so don't change a thing the basking bulb should only be 60w and anything over 85 is to hot for the little fellow. I like to keep my baby cages like that too so i can moniter their feeding if you put to much stuff you can't see how much the little guys eat so leave it as it is don't add anything more to it when he gets bigger and ready for his big boy cage you can do more to it. for now keep it as it is and take weekly pics cause these kids grow up fast!!!

Welcome aboard! I love your Chams name :) "My lil precious"

basking temp

Im only using a 50wt since its such a little cage. My temp gauge is about 3 or 4 inches under the light and its what reads 93, he likes to sit in the light but on the second branch from the top. Thanks for the input about cal with d3 only being twice a month. Is that pretty much the standard ? He is my precious ! For sure. I handmist him with warm water after I read your reply and the piece of skin on his head is gone, just a little left on his leg but it dosent seem wrapped around it just still hanging in there. Yeah the one pic of him is when he was getting nasty cause I had the camera in his cage. Smeeglez no like pictures !
