slug???

so i come upstairs for bed to find i forgot to take the crix out of the cage...so i take them out and on the bottom is a cricket covered in slimmy poo...great so i actuly relize the poo is a slug and the cricket is dead...well i put them both in a deli cup to see if nature will take its course...can my cham eat a wild slug....where the heck did this thing come from...?

the planths havent gone outside and have been in the cage with no pest for 2 months?????? what heppened?

Where...

Some species of slugs hibernate underground during the winter in temperate climates. Which your location meets this criteria.
Other species of slugs lay eggs underground or underneath plant matter.

Either way, the slug may have been hibernating and just woken up and crawled out, or you could have slug eggs present in the dirt/soil in your planters, and one may have hatched out in place.

It could also have come in from outside although it would be coincidental that it found its way to the cage and cricket exactly when you did.

I am not sure about snails as vectors for parasite or bacteria transmission, so maybe someone else can chime in and tell you about that.

Feeding something to your reptile from an unknown source is always risky. You have no idea the contamination build up a 'wild' bug might have. Even if you don't use pesticide/herbicide in your yard, 99.9% of your neighbors probably do. I fed my cham a 'wild' fly and he spit it out right away...why? I am sure that one or two wouldn't hurt but then you might want to do a regular scheduled fecal on them too.

It's always best to have a control food source. I am taking wild snails, feeding them up on organic or good quality matter and will feed off the F2 generation to reduce the risk factor of contaminents.

i know trust me...my dad finds all these bugs and catches them and tries to get my cham to eat them...lol he just doesnt understand the risk...i wouldnt do it unkess there was a prolonged food shortage...on a normal day...no way.

just ahve to know incase 100 of these things hatch while im at school and he starts snacking.
