Slow Acclimating and Not Feeding.

I'd really don't think that any biologist or wildlife scientist would think its a good idea to take a healthy animal that isn't causing any problems from his habitat.

You are wrong here. It is pretty much assumed that if they are exotics, they are bad. Now some may indeed not be bad, but we are talking a small minority.

I would expect that Chams do not have the impact of many, but we really need to check for studies before we decide this to be true.

Either way, I really feel no guilt for collecting an exotic, but of course, I want him to do well......

Which was really the point of this thread.

A dilemma for me ..

This thread has conflicted me emotionally, where I had hoped to just mind my own business. Tomorrow I am going to go out and hug a tree. Then I am going to take my axe and cut it down for firewood.

Lloyd. Hope that critter becomes a wonderful pet. Heck, half the veileds coming out of south Florida are from the wild populations now established there.

Ok, the Reptarium is here and he is in it. Seems nice, but instructions on installing the netting would have been nice for the nonhandy among us. :( Finally figured it out. I also thought there would be a few anchors for climbing stuff other than just the cage frame. Oh well.

I was also worried the spot light would melt through the netting on top so I just took the metal screen top from the aquarium placed it on top and put the spot and Slimline on top of that. I'll check the temps tomorrow. I did buy a 75W halogen to upgrade my spot. Could not believe that Home Depo which had hundreds of cheap spots a year ago did not sell a one, halogen only. WTF??

Anybody use halogen spots?? Good?

Of course, he heads right for the floor despite all the branches I painstakingly setup. Hopefully he will come up to bask in the AM.

It is going to be a work in progress as the softtray has not even left California yet. I guess Big Apple ships quicker than LLL.

We will see if the Cham has read the forum and knows he is supposed to calm down now, start eating, and attain a more natural appearance.......;)
Yes i find big apple ships faster to.I don't know why everyone on this forum likes lll so much BIG APPLE is cheaper and has better service so why would you want to pay more and wait longer:confused::confused:

What part of florida would one look to see wild veileds ? and does anyone know the numbers of these populations ? This has always fascinated me.

Thanks, I'm trying. I have him set up as recommended now. I just wish he would settle down and eat. I did collect him some juicy wild roaches today during my herping trip, so we will see if he likes those better than the crickets and Superworms I have tried.

I did not realize they were being so widely collected......

If it makes everyone feel better my husband was wild caught and has adapted well to captivity and I don't plan on releasing him any time soon! What do u think?!! LOL just trying to lighten this situation turned political!! I'm glad that u are not just a kid keeping a lizard in a closet, ur trying to do the best u can for him!! I do bellieve though living in Fl, even in the city u could build a cage, fill it with tons of real plants and place it outside and only bring it in on nights like we going to have this week : ) Us lucky Floridians : }

Getting back on topic:

For the first time I saw him actively drinking today and much less afraid of the mister. :) Hopefully eating is the next step!

Got the Softliner today,it looks like I have to take the cage apart to use it. :( I'll see if I can do so without too much stress. Then I should have his setup finalized and will start a new thread to show it off for comment.:D
