Sleeping Patterns?

Hey all,

My chameleon has recently been staying awake past his lights out time. He wakes up and goes to bed at 9:00am/9:00pm. I know that he is healthy, Wiz eats like a horse, drinks and has an attitude of dont you dare come in my cage...and he is 2months old. So ruling out illness, is it just typical of some chams to be restless after lights out?

I have tshirts that cover his cage so that no light gets in, I usually shut off his lights, I still have a small light on in the corner of the room away from him, but light never reaches his cage but he still manages to move around and not fall asleep. Tonight he was up for an hour afterwards, I know because I was feeding my crested gecko and kept hearing him crawling along the cage and eventually up the screen where he is now sleeping. I am not worried about him falling down, he is snuggled in, I just dont know why he keeps doing it.

Any insight would be appreciated. I really dont think anything is wrong with him, just wanted to know if anyone else has had similar experiences?

Thanks.

Do you do "daylight saving time" in your neck of the woods? Is it possible that he's just readjusting to the new schedule?

fill this out

We have daylight savings time in here in Washington but it gets darker here earlier and stays darker later in the morning. So if he was falling asleep early I'd understand. He is just staying up late in his cage being a teenager I suppose.

I am not worried about anything with his health, I was just curious if anyone else has this happen? Thanks.

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Veiled, Male, 2 months.
Handling - Maybe once a week, and never for more than 5min at a time.
Feeding - Every day, twice a day. 12-20 medium crickets depending on how many he wants to eat. Eats crickets only.
Supplements - Minerall Outdoor Calcium w/o D3 at every feeding, Repti-Cal and Repti-Vite twice a month.
Watering - I use a hand bottle for drinking and adding humidity. I use Repti-Safe from Zoo Med with the water to remove any harmful parts and add electrolytes/calcium.
Fecal Description - Always checks out, white urates and consistent droppings - DROPS HUGE ONES!
History - Typical Male Veiled Chameleon aka cranky.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - 18x18x18 Exo-Terra Screen Cage
Lighting - Reptisun 5.0UVB Compact, 60W Incadescent Bulb - during late summer he had a 40W bulb, but its too cold now. Lights on/off 9:00am/9:00pm on a timer.
Temperature - 88 at basking, 72 at bottom, I measure with two digital thermometers placed at both levels.
Humidity - 55% at the bottom and around 30-40% at the top. Measured with the same digitial thermometers.
Plants - I use a live ficus in the middle of his cage, he also has three fake plants and three fake vines.
Placement - My room, on a 3' tall end table next to my bed. I am only in my room at night to do emails/bed and to feed him.
Location - Spokane, WA - so dry. Its winter now, so cold and dry.

Current Problem - No real probelm, just not falling asleep right away.

Pic of his cage - Note that there is an extra Exo-Terra plant added to the back left he likes to hide in and another thermometer added near his basking site.

To answer this question directly again, daylight savings moves time back an hour in the fall. So we all gained an hour of sleep that night, including Wiz. So technically, if he was having problems adjusting - it would be him going to bed earlier. Though it was a good theory (I misunderstood you at first), it might make more sense in the spring when you wake em up earlier and send em to bed earlier as well.

daylight savings time forced your lttle one to have his lights go off an hour early...thus he might need adjustment to the new time that his lights go out.
he also might be more of a "late day" or like me a night person...hmmm, I mean chameleon.
I personaly would not worrie about it. he will fall back into a good sleeping pattern in a day or two.

Where did you get wiz in Spokane? I live in Spokane and got Monty from Rasmussen Reptiles in the mall. Good people. I had the same issue don't worry just let him do what he wants :)
