I have a panther chameleon male that is between 4 and 5 months of age. I live in Southern California and for the past couple of days we have been having a heat wave. I have found him sleeping a lot throughout the day. Is this normal?

Thanks :)

Sleeping during the day is not normal. What is your supplement dusting schedule? What type lamp is the Reptisun 5.0, linear or CFL? Definitely need to get a temp for the basking spot and ambient temp.

Also, you should be feeding a 5 month old everyday. Just let your charm decide when he wants to slow down on your feedings.

If his sleeping during the day coincides with the heatwave you should definitely get a digital thermometer/hygrometer with a probe and make sure he is not getting too hot. You can get these for $11-12 at lowes or home depot. Until you get that try turning off his heat lamp to see if he improves. He may not be able to get to a cooler temp if the ambient in the room is above 80.

Agreed. Looks like you're doing things just fine. It certainly could be due to the heat wave, get a digital thermometer and check the temps.

Should I move him to a cooler room? Thanks :)
