Sleep

Wondering how often chameleons nap during the day and how long they sleep throughout the night? Just wanting to make sure my new baby is acting healthy. She's putting herself to bed about 7 each night. But I'm finding her napping around 5 pm, and I think she was napping earlier today too. Is this normal behavior?

Honestly, they should not be sleeping during the day at all. Resting, yes, closing their eyes, no. 5 seems too early. Is she doing it any other time of the day or just at 5.?

Please fill out this form in detail so we can see if there are any problems with your sehttps://www.chameleonforums.com/how-ask-help-66/t up.

It's 5 now and she's doing it and I know around 9a.m. she was doing it. She closes her eyes but if you bump her cage or get near her, she'll open her eyes and look at you.

Please Help!

How are you measuring your temps, with what type of thermometer?. If you have a 100 watt light for basking, it may be hotter than 85. You don't want it much hotter for a baby cham.

Those things are not accurate at all and I would get a digital thermometer, hygrometer(home depot $10 bucks) and take another reading. a 100 watt light for a baby is not necessary. Do you have it laying right on the screen, and how far away is the basking branch/vine from the light? Does she only close her eyes under the light or just anywhere in the cage?.

It is not on the cage. It is lifted about 2 feet from the highest basking branch and I have levels of branches under the basking light. She closes her eyes when she goes under her hiding leaf which is on the other side of the cage from the basking light. This is the same place where she puts herself to sleep at night.

Well, I don'treally see anything else that looks awry in your set up. If your basking light is that high up then your temps probably are not that hot. I would gutload your feeders better though for the future. Regular lettuce is like feeding water. Feed your crickets the dark leafy greens, kale, mustard greens, dandelion, collard greens etc. Just keep watch on the eye closing then and see if she is doing it more often or less. Good luck with her!

miss jay i have one from the same batch as you..pm me..i will send you a list and i will post a video on what i use and why..what temps..humidity, feeding drinking..ect...just hope you the best of luck!!
