SKIN ISSUE?! / possible sinus infection :( please HELP

Fern Baby

New Member
My Chameleon has developed some very concerning problems (sunken eyes, lump on head that is spreading to her right eye) left and right sides of lower rib cage /behing back legs is lumpy, and thick feeling :( ), and since i had a recent vet epidemic that cost me around 900$$ i really cant afford it right now. I love my girl with all my hear and soul and would appreciate ANY help i can get until i round up enough money to make a down payment on care credit to take her to the vet :( :( :( :( I am posting pictures of the problem, but i am new to this site and it might take a little. THANK YOU

Chameleon Info:
My Cham - Yemen, female, 4 years old. in care since 1 year old her name is Fern

Handling - i used to handle Fern all the time and she loved it, loved coming out was bright green all the time, got a little crankier in the winter since i live in chicago and there is very little sunlight and she cant go outside obviously until spring. HOWEVER she had a prolapse after laying a clutch two months ago and also had a parasitic infection. After visiting the vet 3 times, (once for initial checkup/prolapse procedure, another after she re-prolapsed and had to get sutchers, and another after that to remove the sutchers) she HATED me/ was very stressed/depressed. now i dont handle her ever or even look at her for that matter unless i am giving her her daily bath (which she quite enjoys) since this skin problem has developed.

Feeding - I feed Fern about 5 crickets a day gut loaded with veggies and cricket food (dust one/three crickets a week). I also feed her super worms, wax worms and horn worms as special treats. Fern also enjoys feeding on her jade plant

Supplements - I use zoo med's Reptivite with D3 vitamin supplement on crickets often and have been suplementing her with an aditional calcium source of Neo Cal Glucose serum the vet gave me from when she had parasites.

Watering - Fern drinks a healthy amount out of her water dish and also out of her "little dripper" i use a hand held miter to mist her 2ce a day and have currently been bathing her for 15-30 min daily.

Fecal Description - Normal brown and white nothing of concern

Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? yes and treated and re tested negative

Hi, your little girl doesnt look well at all. you are correct she has a sinus infection among other issues. Coloration/ lumpy in the rear she looks like she may have eggs. If she has not had a proper place to lay them she may be egg bound. The skin issue could possibly be an infection or it could be a result of issues going on with the organs in that area. Either way, she needs a vet to see whats wrong and then treat professionally. Unfortunately i hate to be negative but from the looks of sunken cheeks and turrets she doesnt have much time.

She could have parasites again.
She could be re-absorbing her eggs/ egg bound

Your supplement schedule is off a little and i recommend you getting that switched once you get things turned around with her.

Till you can see a vet.
I would give her long shower a couple times a day.

I'm so sorry about your girl! :( More experienced member can help you hopefully, but I'm pretty sure they will send you to the vet too. She seems dehydrated for sure and it looks like sinus infection on her head. But her skin?! I have no clue! I hope somebody can help you! I wish you and your cham the best!
Those things just came out from one day to another or took time?

I have to agree with this. The abscess can't be treated without a vet, and I agree she may have partially reabsorbed eggs to get rid of. So sorry!

Thanks for hitting me up you guys i really appreciate it!!

The sinus infection developed over a month and the skin issue is about 2 weeks in.

she layed a clutch of 38 eggs two weeks ago.

Just took her to the vet (hes been seeing her since i got her 3 years ago) and he had never seen something like this before. Shes not eggbound but has high white and red blood cells, meaning shes fighting something, most likley infection. We sent a smear of the skin off to a lab to check for fungal infection which is most likley suspected. He said since shes eating so well and her weight has gone up she can most likley make it through this once the proper diagnosis is found. Until then i am giving her antibibiotics, and anti-fungal medication, a topical anti-fungal liquid for her skin lesions and more calcium-glucose serum orally. :) hopefully things start looking up cuz shes got more beautiful years ahead with me!
