how come my cham doesn't react to his reflection in the mirror?
i put a small mirror in his enclosure and he just climbed over it and nothing more happened.
Another time he was on my shoulder and i walked to a mirror and I stayed in front of the mirror for a few minutes but he did nothing!!
he was like "mmh a mirror, big deal, now put me pack in my cage you idiot :D"

P.s in case you were wondering he's not blind!

Mine wont react either.
enither of my males care about a mirror..
onyl time my veiled fires up is if i wake him up.

maybe he knows its himself :p and he likes how good he looks ;) or maybe because there isnt a female present, he feels theres nothing to get upset about :p

Maybe you have an awesomely chill Cham that will let you put him on your shoulder and doesn't get mad when you stick random things in his cage! I'D BE HAPPY! :)

yeah you have a point! he's definitely a cool dude! unlike his owner :p

it's just that in more than a year I have never seen him actually firing up! I saw him sporting amazing colors under the summer sun and I have seen him get all dark and spotty when he's mad (yes he does get mad sometimes )

I really wish I could get him a female, just to see what would happen although he would probably be bullied by the female.
there's no love in chams world :(

i put a mirror in my free range with my trio, the females ignored it like expected, my male was interested, but not aggressive, just kinda wanted to look at it, then was bored and ignored it..still never fires up in a mirror..

try showing him your computer screen with a female in receptive colors? haha, ive tried that with mine, he could care less  but worth a shot :)

I loaded a video of a ambilobe firing up on my iPhone, and my little 5 month old even flashed some color, and definitely reacted

My first male veiled displayed at mirrors, chrome strips on appliances, glass terrarium walls, windows, you name it. Once he knew where potential rivals lurked around the house he'd go on patrol to threaten all of them whenever he was out.

My female melleri (pretty sure she was anyway) was dedicated to intimidating the glass door on a stereo cabinet whenever she got the chance. She would leave her free range room, march through the house, stop in front of the stereo, go through her threat routine, and when the other cham didn't go away she walked around behind the cabinet to take it up in person. Then I had to disentangle her from all the wiring.

So cute - none of mine really fire up in front of a mirror either, only when they are allowed to see their lovely mates do they get that "fired up" color! :)

thanks everyone! very interesting!
I didn't know that there were so many individual differences in each cham's behaviour! chameleon keepers who I talked to (not on this forum :p !!!) tend to generalize when talking about behaviour, but they shouldn't! chameleons are not machines!!!

All chams have personalities.. just like people.. it may not be as broad as humans. but when you own more than one, youll see it.

one of my chams sleeps in the same spot every night, wihtout fail.
another one, curls his tail to the side of his body, instead of under it like most chams.

personality! :D

the topic of cham's personality is very interesting because personality is often linked to emotions but scientists agree that most reptiles (including chams) don't have emotions because they lack the brain areas where emotions come from.

should we start reconsidering our knowledge about the link between brain and emotions???? :D ...because of chameleleons????!!!

just saying

i think all animals have emotions.. some are just more developed than others.

if animals dont have emotions.. then why do dogs look sooo sad when you leave, or so happy when they get a new toy? hmmmm... exactly!
hahaha

no wait I never said ALL animals dont have emotions, I only said "most reptiles" not even ALL reptiles!!! (according to scientists)
