i want to oder 20 000 silkworms eggs but im not sure how many will hatch ! with proper conditions will hatch like 90%? less or more?

what do you think ?should i order eggs or live silkworms ?the lives ones that can be shipped where i live are microsilkworms just hatched ... so i need your opinion! tnx

I would get the eggs and keep them in the fridge so you have a continual supply of them. Unless you have a huge number of animals to feed, then it might be worth it to buy live ones in huge numbers.

This is a snippet from the silkworm care page at mulberryfarms.com:

"If you place about 200 eggs per LARGE petri dish - you will end up with a much higher percentage of worms to eggs (up to 90% or more), but you must maintain warm temperatures. The fewer eggs per petri dish the higher percentage of worms to eggs you will end up with. The eggs will come glued down in a large petri dish in lots of 200, 500 and 1000 eggs. Silkworms eggs purchased in "bulk" will not be glued down.

Can the eggs be refrigerated to delay hatching?
Silkworm eggs should not be refrigerated unless they are shipped using Overnight delivery with an ice pack and styrofoam box (extra) and then placed immediately into your refrigerator and maintained between 35 to 37 degrees Fahrenheit - and 70 to 80% humidity. Then they can be stored in your refrigerator for over 1 month and they will hatch about 8 to 10 days after removal (if maintained at around 80 degrees)."

i have only one chameleon and i want to start breeding silkworms ! so i thought 20k-25k eggs will be a good start, yes i read the mulberyfarms raising tips ! did anyone bought from http://www.silkwormstore.co.uk ? which one is better mulbery or silkwormsore ?

I think there are some Romanian suppliers. Unless you plan to start a large scale operation/use the silk 20-25k is a TON of worms.

I'm new at this also just got my 2 young ones Sunday will be 3wks. So I don't give advice, I will ask you after reading your post I thought that crickets were their main diet only silkworms and butterworm as a treat cause of the fat in these worms? Just asking. I do have mealworms in ref. but only give them 2 per day !

Silkworms can be a staple diet. You should just get 500 silkworms. You will have a good hatch rate. I breed silkworms and 500 is a lot. You won't need anymore than that.
