Silkworms killed by their own silk

1st time silkworm caretaker. I hatched 1000 eggs a few weeks ago and I noticed a lot of the worms seem to be stuck in the massive amount of silk they have stretched everywhere. Can this kill them?

The pic below is after I did the first cleaning and when I transferred them to the new enclosure they all kind of rolled into one big ball

I've wondered this too. I've ordered silks three times from a place online and probably won't go back because of this. Every time they came, they were in a giant clump and half died almost immediately. Sorry I can't add anymore than I've noticed when they are all stuck in a ball around food the smaller ones tended to die off fast.

Ive never cleaned them...

They will naturally crawl up on top of the new food/leaves. If you clean them and handle them alot, they will die from colds/sick. Some people have a rule of dont put the uneaten ones back into the tub, just throw them out, else the tub get sick.
