So this question got lost in another thread. How long does it take for the female moth to finish laying all her eggs and when she is done I can feed her off right? ...Although it doesn't feel right
Also do the males get confused? There is this one poor moth that I think is a male but one of the other males is trying really hard to connect but they never really get hooked up.
The female usually finishes within several hours. I usually give her a day then once I'm sure she's done I feed her to my boys. And yes those males are crazy and try to mate with anything, even other males. It's one of the reasons why I put a toilet paper tube around a mating couple.....because the other males try to but in. Once they are done i take the male out and leave just the female in the toilet paper roll. Then the female lays her eggs in a nice circle in the tube.
I did that too (toilet paper roll honeymoon suite) when I was sure I had a male/female pair so they would not be disturbed. I have two little egg "packages"; I actually have a sectioned container that I put the female in after interrupting her "activity"; Each section has paper towels for her to lay on and has kept everything neat. I just have more males than females. Only two girls so far and 5 boys.
