Silkworm food for Dubia?????

I have a small batch of silkworm food left over and no silkies or hornworms to feed it to.....sssooooo....I was wondering if I should give it to my dubias.

I would think it would be a good gutload.

Has anyone done this before?

You can always try with a colony of 10 roaches and see what happens. That way, you don't kill off the whole colony.

I don't know how good the food is for them, but they love it. I took a toilet paper roll of dubia out of my colony to get a mix of sizes and put it in with the silkworm food. Before I could get container closed they were already eating the food......I guess I'll know fairly soon.

Maybe if they don't do well on it I could use it for a gutload a day before feeding them off. It's all that the silkies or hornworms eat and they're great feeders for chams, so.....?????

I'm thinking that it'd be a great gutload for them if it would be just thrown out anyways. No sense waisting a perfectly good and expensive gutload. It's ingested by the silks then ingested by the Chams so I see nothing wrong with it.

I can't wait to hear the follow up Kevin. Many people most likely end up with a bunch of cooked gutload with no silkies to feed. May as well put it to good use right?

Well that didn't go over as well as I hoped. When I first put it in they were all over it. The next day there was still a good amount left which isn't normal for my dubias. I replaced it with a new smaller piece and the next day it was almost untouched. Today i crumbled it up and put in some dandelion leaves to see if they would eat them because I know they love them. This way if they aren't eating because of being moved they shouldn't eat the dandelions either. But so far it's not looking good.

I guess the next test will be for crickets.
