Silk Worms…Moths

I apologize if there is already a thread about this, but I have a question about silk worms. I haven't had much experience with them and was told to keep them in the fridge which from what I hear, prevents them from spinning cocoons.

My question is, if they do form cocoon and come out as a moth, can you give this moth to a panther? Will they eat it? Is it ok for them?

Thanks in advance for your help.

never heard of anyone keeping silkworms, once hatched, in the fridge.

yes, the moths are a nice treat for chameleons to eat, though they cannot be gutloaded in the way that silkworm larva can be.

I think you just keep the eggs in the fridge to stop them hatching. Cooler (not fridge) temperatures and less food stops them growing as fast.

I'm thinking that if you put the worms in the fridge they will die. That's why they don't travel well in the winter. I keep mine in an incubator in the winter and they thrive. I cool the eggs for a few weeks and take them out when I need them. As said before feed them every other day to slow their growth down but only when they are established.:)

I have 3 moths that are going to be lizard treats if they don't start with the moth sex soon! Although I think they are all boys. Hopefully an opposite will appear soon.
