yes, that is what most of use for basking. just regular old housebulbs! They do the trick and are cheap!!!

I use powersun MVB 100wW in my vivs 2x2x4. seem to work a treat for me and cheaper too. they say they last up to 2 years so 65 euro for 2 years is good, plus you get a 6 month garauntee so it gets replaced should you happen to get a bad 1 that burns out quickly. Bear in mind though that they get very hot so you will need to lower your basking branch/plant to achieve the correct temperature for him. Also a point to remember is if you switch it off, it needs to cool down before it will light again, a mistake i made and looked very silly when i returned it to the shop and it worked again!!! lol. They dont work on a dimmer either.

that kind of depends on what your ambient room temperatures are but it doesn't really matter on the wattage of the bulb as long as the temperatures are right. just buy a couple of regular household bulbs at different wattage's and see which gives the the best temps.

so i swapped out the powersun bulb for a 75w basking bulb i had and i noticed a bit of a change in how he was acting... immediately he started to drink more water as i let the enclosure cool and i noticed he went to bask under the new light once i put it on. im still going to get this little guy to a specialist for a check up. i just wanna say thanks to everyone who has been helping me out with this issue. ill let you know how the vet goes as soon as i get to it

got a vet visit at a reptile specialist. 136 for a physical exam and fecal sample!!

So i went to the vet this morning and got a full check up on Carmelo. turns out, the vett i saw is an outstanding reptile specialist. Carmelos fecal exam came back good. He said the chameleon looks very healthy and strong. i went over every detail of everything with the vet and he gave me a couple of adjustments to try over the next week or two.

1.the doc said to give carmelo access to hotter temps than what i have it (86); he said somewhere between 90-95
this will help trigger the reaction in his skin to absorb more UVB (i just changed to a new one like 2 days ago because the old one was old and probably not emitting enough UV
2. he also said to give him calcium w/ D3 every other feeding for the next 2 weeks then once weekly for 2 more weeks
3. to tackle the humidity he said the best i could do is longer misting. he mentioned misting for 45 mins but that's long, right?
I'm thinking more like 3 misting of 4 mins one at 7:30am, 11AM, and then the last at 3PM. (still debating on getting a humidifier...)

if his symptoms persists then he wants to do blood work and xrays...im hoping nothing is wrong with him because i can only imagine what its going to cost lol

so i started doing everything the doctor told me to do (posted above). i'm still noticing that Carmelo will keep an eye closed (while basking, or under the UVB bulb). he is still alert with the other eye?? i need an opinion because i don't know what the hell could be wrong with him...
some feedback would be appreciated.

It could be a vitamin A issue. Even a small amount of d3 could possibly be too much if the balance between d3 & vitamin a is incorrect. Some believe that chams can not convert prOformed A(betacarotine) into prEformed A. A lack of vit.a has been known to cause eye issues...
