Do yiu or can you shower your chameleon once a week to hydrate? I heard that somewhere but I want to be sure.

you certinly can if he likes them and its not stressfull the thing is shower the showe wall let droplets hit him on a plant direct stream can drown them. my guy hates water so this would do more harm them good unless he was sick, they always suggest shwers for sick felling chams if you see orange in the poop it would be highly advisable otherwise if hes getting mistings often which u should do often anyways then its not a necessary thing.

Warm some water and put it in a mister bottle, put your chameleon on a branch and spray him down, if he doesn't like it just stop. This would be better than showering him. :)

Showering is just fine, and can be very benificial. Provided its done correctly. How to shower:
Turn shower on luke warm, not hot at all, just barely warmish.
Point it at the wall, to where you get the most water bouncing off the wall as you can.
Put tree in shower, to where the bouncing water hits half the tree, leaving half the tree as an escape from water if needed.
Put chameleon on tree and leave for 20-30min.

This will not hurt any cham, however its not always needed. I do not do this regularly or anything, but it works well if you need it.
You could also use a hand pump or automated mister to achieve the same effect.

looking dry is usually a shed coming on up mistings when shedding but try to handle as little as possible as hell already be stressed due to shedding and hell probibly be irritable. most are.

Why not just let him drink? This isnt aimed at you per say..... But I hear all the time about chams getting dehydrated.... Dont people look at care sheets? They all say, Set up a dripper so they can drink. Ive never put a cham in the shower and from what I hear none like it! Even a cage that gets low on humidity once in a while wont hurt them as long as they can get some water in them.

I'm thinking of investing in a good mister so I can be sure there's always enough moisture for drink and humidity. I want him to drink but if he doesn't I want to be sure he's hydrated. I'm just a worry wart.

I just wanted to know if people shower them for hydrating purposes not only if they are sick, cuz we bathe our tortoise if he looks a little dry I was curious as to whether you can shower chameleons often. I understand your concern by no means will I not mist well so he can drink.

Excellent idea... I have a Mist King and it goes off every 1 1/2 hr for about 30 seconds.... just long enough to get the cage damp...my cage doesnt flood. It keeps the humidity levels nice that way. I see you are from Wisc too.. so you know what I mean about trying to keep the humidity up! Its REALLY dry here in the winter. www.mistingdepot.com

I shower my boys once a week.
My veiled doesnt normally drink in the shower, but my hoehnelli will drink for 20 minutes sometimes.
His urates are always white, but i like to make sure he gets enough water, even with a dripper and 4 times a day mistings.
Hoehnellis require more water anyway.

SO I say if you want to shower him once a week jsut to make sure, go for it. as long as he isnt stressed out.

Cool ^^ thank you I'm always worried about dehydration.

Hornworms and silkworms are a great hydrator as well. You should supplement his diet with both or one of these regularily. Variety of feeders is a good thing. I have problem drinkers in my group of chams and I give them a drip cup in different places each day to trigger a drinking response. Just poke a hole from the inside of a plastic cup so that it drips every second or 2 and place it on top of the cage so it creates a drip right in front of them. It will ususally trigger a drinking response. Once you figure out how they like to drink, do that every day. Some will like the drip coming off a branch and others like to lick a leaf as water is dripping on it, for example. Hope this helps.
