so i got my spoiled little brat a ficus finally just to see how she would like it....and she loves it...more so then i thought but the only thing is i know they are toxic if eaten, i fed her the usual and i make her a salad everyday and she ate everything like usual but now she has been munching on the ficus for the last 2 days  she eats non-stop so im thinking of putting the ficus in the panther cage and gettin her something new that will 1.) support her wieght (she is a big girl) 2.) something that is safe for her to eat 3.) something easy to t.c. of b.c i dont have the green thumb ..it seems everything i touch dies LOL 4.) where can i get it?
so with all that said can anyone point me in the right direction

ficus benjamina? they are slightly toxic, and she would have to eat a lot to havea ny problems, plus i think its more of a eye irritant by the sap in the leaves? not too sure....

a great plant i know for veileds that super edible and veileds love is hibiscus plants..they eat the flowers (very tasty) and sometimesw the leaves...:)

hope this helps

yes ficus benjamina ... she does eat alot that is what worries me ...idk how much is to much so far her eyes have been fine ...and i was looking at hibiscus im just afraid of killing the plant LOL ...il definately look into it some more tho thank you ... any little bit helps ;)

yeah, as far as i know, with the ficus it's mainly the sap.....our veiled started off with a bonsai ficus and he ate on it quite a bit with no trouble...not that he's in with a different ficus, he hasn't been eating the leaves...i dunno. i have a hard time with our hibiscus cause of the misting and drainage...they get over-watered easily. we have two of our panthers on camelia's and those seem a little "heartier" so maybe that's something you could try

If you are interested in feeding another readily atainable species that is harmless look for Pothos. It is found in any garden centers and in most grocery stores in the Summer. It is originally form the Solomon Islands in the S Pacific. Easy to grow and propagate with cuttings in water and they LOVE them.

i think u need a plant light..6500k ?... i think to keep the hibiscus alive and water it every other day....they need more sunlight and overwatering can cause problems, but i dont think so.....just try it out...i had a veiled and ate the flowers and loved the great foilage and easy to lick water off:)....but yeah they are fragile than a ficus:p

I agree. Hibiscus plants are a pain to use indoors. Ficus plants seems to do great and even growing.

I would suggest cutting back on the supplementation some. She has a little bit of edema in the throat and neck area. Up her water intake and cut the supplements back until it goes away and then keep with the lighter dusting schedule.

As for plants. I use ficus in some of my cages. I do not have any animals that eat plants though. I like schefflera the best because the leaves hold water the best. IMO.

that little bulge on her throat looks like gular edema...sometimes when gravid thay can get it slightly and then it goes away...but it can b rom oversupplementing...i think an overdose of vit. A....again not too sure...it doesnt hurt to post current pics to see if Jared is right....good luck and i agree with Jared the umbrella plants are good too...

sorry i cant...but from the angle it doesnt look like she has it, but still not a good angle..maybe get one pic tomorrow when she is awake...but to be safe..cut down on the supps...:)

Like Ace said. Its not uncommon for them to get it while gravid. It can also be caused by over supplementing. The location she is in, in the current pics I cant really see the bottom of her throat. Its not terrible in the first set of pics either so its not a life or death situation at this time. Just want to catch it before it gets too bad if it was not from being gravid. Try and snag some pics when she is not sleeping.

i can take some more pics of her tmr.....just dont want to bug her while she is asleep ...how much would you suggest cutting down to?
i dust with reg calcium every other day
calcium WITH D3 once a month, i dont use any other supplements b/c of all the fresh greens & fruit she eats.

That seems to be the schedule that works for most people with veileds. If she does need less supplements I would just dust less of the feeders and use the same schedule. I would suspect it was because she was gravid since it really wasnt terrible in the first set of pics. Snag some pics tomorrow and we can go from there:)

There might be just the slightest swelling in the recent pics. Definitely not as much as when she was gravid. You can try cutting back a tad on the supplements if you like. Try dusting half the feeders or a smaller pinch. I have an uthmoelleri male that always seems to have tiny bit of swelling no matter how I supplement him. Ive talked to other keepers of the species who say the same. Im not too concerned with it as long as it is very minimal. I would feel the same for your female also.
