Hi All,

So my Elliots Chameleon is now around 5 months old and id like to get it properly sexed. I have had mixed comments saying that its male and others saying its female but would be greatful of some other thoughts.........

The ellioti are a little harder to sex than some species but I'm inclined to think that is a male. The tail base is bigger on the males than the females but the differences are very subtle between the two. This particular specimen also has fairly well defined lateral stripes with dark patch underlines and is showing a lot of colour although those points can't always be used as definitive sex indicators.

I took a quick peek at one of your previous threads on the subject and I think you've got two males. Would it be possible to post some clear, updated pics of both?

I really miss working with the ellioti and bitaeniatus complex in general so never fear that you will bore me with pics of your crew!

Cheers,
T

Hi,
thanks for the reply. unfortunately the smaller of the 2 died a few weeks back. he had an infected temporal gland which spread very quickly to its eye so now im just left with the 1. this is the larger of the 2 in the previous posts, which was duller in comparison to the other. the colours on the other were very vibrant and green/blue.

I saw some of Julirs photos of her ellioti and noticed the male had a much larger tail base at the hemipenal area, which mine doesnt. the tail is very thin right upto the base but still im unsure on the sex. these little guys are so difficult to get hold of over here in the UK, especially the captive bred ones, so id like to be sure of the sex before start looking for a mate for it.:D

Looks nice. I see an umbrella plant in there, but what are the other two? I'm planning on adding some real plants soon and I want my enclosure to look very similar to what you have going on.

I think there are 2 different types of spider plant, some palm, and there is a hidden pothos in there too.:D
