What a fantastic month! I love to see some of the more unusual chams being submitted. It was so hard to choose, I wish I could have chosen my 3 favorites.

judge rankings
There were no judges for the September 2011 contest.

We had a tie in the public voting this month. Due to the fact that there were no judges I made the tie-breaking vote. The main reason for my choice was the difference in the level of pixelation between the two entries. There can only be one gold medal, but the prize will be split this month. Judges will be used next month. There is always room for improvement, so if anyone has a suggestion please create a new thread in the photo contest or feedback forums. If you prefer to remain anonymous you can send me an email or private message.

Medals have been awarded.
Congratulations to the winners :) :D

The next contest I will make sure that 95% of my pic is out of focus that seems to please the judges around here.........but there is not going to be a next time!!

keep on entering your photos, i would love to make it past brad's original voting at least once...
I personally like what you call blurry photos because sometimes too much background noise can detract from the melody.... ;)

I feel the same - I have also given up entering the contest. People just don't vote for the plain and boring English Veileds. I may start entering again when I get my Jackson baby, I might have more luck with him!;)

Congrats winners!

I actually really like the first place winner. It's all shades of green, the lighting is nice, and the focus on his eyes keeps the interest at the "soul" of the subject.

I hardly ever win, but why should I? I usually only submit photos of one of my chameleons in profile, but there's nothing artistic or interesting about the photo beyond the colors of the animal itself. I don't vote for photos like mine either, I just submit for fun but I never expect to win. I think it's wrong to vote for a panther, for example, just because the animal itself is pretty. The photo as a whole should have artistic merit.

First you need to get a team of people to rally behind you and vote for your... then your veiled will win.

Yeah, I hear paying out rep points will get you a number one spot. At least for the member voting part:)

Glad to see a couple Kinys in the top three this month though. I thought there were quite a few killer pics.

congrats to the winners!! and thanks to those who voted for my quad, i think i got the most votes i ever have this month:D

I think that is an awesome photo of your quad, I would have liked to see it placed in the top 3!

Congrats to Steven and George for their pics of very beautiful animals! :)

I think the last year or last months has shown that not only Panthers and Jemen are on the first rankings. :D

Peter Kraemer's picture is definately not out of focus. The focus is indeed very good, and on the eyes (like it's highly suggested in photography, either animal or human portrait). The blurry effect is called "depth of field", which is created by having a very big aperture (F1.4 to F2.8) approximatively. Like Syn said, the depth of field's purpose is to isolate one thing (like the head of a chameleon) in order to notice it's details, rather than seeing the whole background which is too often a useless distractor.

I clearly understand that you are disagreeing with the people's choice, and that you would like to win. However, i must say that you already made it into the top three quite a few times, and only a handful group of persons have made it to the top 3 more often than you...
