Saul- will he live or not? (just the title not a real question)

redhorse

Chameleon Enthusiast
So this is Saul- He was born on Dec. 3rd 2020. He was actually the first out of 66 others.
If you have not noticed he was born blind but after 1 month and 7 days he is still kicking it and wandering all over the place.

Saul is still doing fine. He can feel the heat from the light (basks in it) and continues to travel around.
I feed him when feeding the other babies, but know he is not getting as much (from 6 fruit flies twice a day to 3 small crickets).
I don't want to over feed and worry about underfeeding. I will give him the time and I hope he has the will power.
This is the projected week for shedding. crossing fingers.
Thanks for your comments.

An extra special cham. With your assistance I think he will learn all he needs to in order to live out his life.
May have to make some adjustments to his enclosure to accommodate his needs.
Best of luck to all😍

BEST UPDATE!!!! So after about 30 plus (2 or 3x a day feeding) He finally shed and to my surprise his face became semi-normal and his eyes are present. I am still in shock because I was expecting a LONG time caring for him. All I can think is that his skin or yolk or clear liquid (hardened) and prevented his head from being normal. His eyes are still very week but he is following the light, other chameleons, crickets and me. Positive Positive Positive! His tongue is thin but cannot catch get moving food. He eats more and more everyday and all he needs is for me to wash his eyes in the A.M., with water on paper towel. I will update pics soon. He is a keeper and I will. :)
Thanks for all the kind wishes. We just never know and culling was out of the question.
Sire is (Randel) (low)High Trans and Mom was Normal. He is already low trans and might have some color in head too (not 100%).

Transformation---- Hatching (He was the first to hatch)
Last pic is his Glamour Shot, with bruising on lip area from hand feeding. This portion hopefully will soon heal.
1. Thanks again for the kind words.
2. Sorry for being premature with "blind" part.
Happy Camper in CA. :)

Once I use the tweezers and paper towel wash, he is able to open. About 5 minutes ago he was chasing a cricket (small) on the bottom of the container. I am just happy for "Baby Steps".
Maybe he was premature, I really don't understand or know enough.
Thanks for asking.

UPDATE! Doing well and still using some of his Handi-cap traveling skills.
He hunts at the bottom of the container (not sure why). Then he grabs onto a larger sibling and gets a ride up. He did this when both eyes were covered and not working.
Pic of him getting free ride and size comparison due to force feeding for the first month. I noticed scared skin on both sides of head, where I had to hold his head when force feeding. Also his lips are getting better too since I don't have to open with tweezers anymore. I am hoping all his minor blemishes will go away after a few shedding's.
What a journey of having a blind chameleon- not so blind to little chameleon.

Also Pictures is Rhino- He was CB here and the runt of the litter. The others always would beat him up especially during juvi stage. He almost died a few times until I separated and gave him some meds/extra foods (baby snails, isopods with veggies) His Glamour Shot!

Had to share!

Update on Saul- Before anyone notices how big the cricket is and comments on it, know this.. Once Saul finally opened his eyes he has sight issues for some reason. He follows bigger items and does not see the smaller stuff. I have tried fruit flies, pinheads, and even small crickets. He just does not follow or see them (Weird! I know). He just started hunting off the ground about 3 days ago and he is 2 months old this week. Word of advice working with this little guy (still looks like a new born 1"body and some siblings going on 3" body).
Never give up when dealing with these incredible animals.
Thanks and have a fabulous February.
