Sand on top of dirt

Has anyone put sand on top of the potting soil for the plants to keep the cham from eating the dirt chunks?

Your chameleon might just eat the sand instead.

Just make sure your soil is completely organic and then take out all the larger chunks on the top of the soil and you should be fine.

I've put sand on top of the soil....the type of sand that I use does not cause impaction though...it passes right through the chameleon. I have had enough chameleons autopsied when they died to know this for sure....with this particular sand.

What kind of sand do you use? I like the idea of having sand covering the soil as it prevents bugs from burrowing and/or living in the top soil.

The best way if your worried about it is to use large rocks to big to be eaten or just cover it with screen which is prob the best way

I agree with boj..the best way to make sure they don't eat the soil is to put river rocks on top and/or use screen on top of the soil. This also helps prevent crickets from eating the soil/sand which eventually goes into your chameleon when they eat it.

Crickets don't eat sand...
