Hi I was just wondering something well I take my panther out everyday for like 30 min but back to the point he always licks me I don't know what that means? He drinks plenty of water I have a Habba mist and it goes off every 3 hours and for 20 seconds so I don't think it's because he's thirsty! He's almost 5 months old and I've been holding him every day like I have said but he didn't want to eat out of my hand ever! Now he eats out of it like ever so often why can I hold him and he won't eat out of my hand isn't it sopposed to be the other way around? Also do sambavas have lots of blue on them because mine does when he's really happy he's yellow some blue red but only a little and green!

post a pic of him. Some of the young Sambavas will have blue in them. Mine did. His bars were baby blue when he was young but not any more. As they mature they will be primarily green with dark blue or burgandy bars and when they fire up their bars turn redish and their body will be more orange or yellow. Their lateral line is usually blue or white.

ok here are some pictures. IMG_2270[1].jpg

he looks good! Lots of nice color already! Has the U bar that most of the Sambavas have. Mine has a "W" bar instead of the "U" lol! Check out my photo album. I don't have any baby pics in there but you will see one pic from way back where he has beautiful blue bars!

Mine is from kammerflage also! Sired by Poncho who is is now retired from breeding. I am so happy with my chameleon from them. Like I said, check out my album!

He is gorgeous!

Is he licking you or just dabbing his tongue on you?

My panther did it all the time when he was younger, around 12 months old. He would go around tasting his vines and plants and my arm.

Reptiles leave chemical markers where they've been. Panthers use their tongues to detect the scent/hormones left by other chameleons. They have glands in their mouths that can process whatever they pick up on their tongue. Male Panthers leave a trail of scent every where they go.

Its completely normal although a little weird :)

haha i will look at you pictures! and i dint know that they did that with there toungs verry interesting lol

Yes it's called tongue dabbing and my little guys does it all the time. I found it to be weird when I first saw it too and thought he was thirsty or something but later found out what it was.
