Safe plants?

Hello,

I am building a new terrarium for Timmy, so far it has fake plants (all the pictures of the terrarium has fake plants) but still quite empty. I saw some woods and vines i want to take and put in his enclosure.

How do i sterilise large pieces of wood? Are the plants safe? Bamboo and ivy.

Thank!

Hi. If Timmy is a veiled chameleon, you’ll need to make sure to use only safe live plants. Veileds like to nibble their plants. Attaching a safe plant list for you. If you go to https://chameleonacademy.com/plants/ you’ll find even more info. There is also a section on how to set up your enclosure that you should check out.
As for branches, they don’t need to be sterilized…just cleaned. You can use branches from outside, but avoid ones with sap like pine. I just give a scrub with some dish soap and rinse very well with the hose. I leave the bark on as well as lichen that didn’t come off with my scrubbing and rinsing. Let dry in the sun and they’re good to go.

Also you do not want to use a red bulb for heat... This can damage their eyes. They need a white one. 12 hours lights on and 12 hours lights off in total darkness.

Are the plants safe? Bamboo and ivy.
AFAIK the bamboo should be OK. I had some Ivy, but found it controversial enough that I took it out. Others may vary. There are other live vines that are known to be safe.
Golden Pothos
Philodendrons
Inchplant
Madagascar Jasmine

That enclosure is very intriguing, what are you using for that? It looks like some sort of panel system you can just custom piece together.

Yes, look on amazon for rabbit enclosures. They come in many forms and cost much less than terrariums!
