I am sorry to hear about the bad news. Try to get a hold of them as soon as possible because DOAs need to be delt with timely to get a refund. Im sure they will be happy to give you a refund but will be sad about the unfortunate event. They have one of the best reputations in the business. I have been holding out on shipping because I am not comfortable about the weather (sorry debbie) and I havent shipped in cold weather either.

Chamman. lllreptile says they ship in 35 degree weather. Ive heard not under 40 myself but I think 50 would be the safest bet. The thing is is you dont want them to get too cold but then you dont want them to be too hot from to much insulation and heatpacks. I see this as very tricky.

I have been on the phone with them and they are going to ship me another when it is a little warmer. Great customer service i really mean it :)

liddy has got to be one of the sweetest people to deal the kammers are a top notch outfit thats for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D

For the record you can ship in 20 degree weather or colder..
I've shipped to Alaska, and Chicago in the dead of winter and it doesn't get much colder than those places.
All you have to do is package correctly and it's simple.
Your chameleon may have been tossed or banged during shipping.
Just wanted to clear that up as people think you can't ship in the winter but that's what heat packs are for, shipping during cold periods like winter..

absolutely correct, my dealer told me that adult panther chams can withstand high 40's for extended periods as long as they have adamant basking during the day time.
With advanced Stiro-foam boxes and not polyurethane boxes as well as multiple heat packs and ventilation, you can ship into the single digit range from my experience with other reptiles.

That is terrible news. I personally don't think you should be shipping in anything below 50F. Why risk the chams life?

Temp isn't a factor if packaged properly and I'm sure the Kammers know how to pack.
Why ship chameleons period as the handling of the packages via shipping companies is far worse that the weather.
Try this, take a styro lined box pack it like you would for shipping with a heat pack. Place a temp gauge with a probe and place inside the box. seal the box and place in the fridge. Check it 5 hours or how ever long you want and see what the temp is..
It's like people saying to place holes in the box for air. That makes no sense as there's plenty of air in the box for a reptile or amphibian.
Sorry for the rant but dont blame the temps :p

Actually,The holes in the box are essential not for the reptiles breathing but because heating elements require oxygen to sustain heat, and much like a fire they draw oxygen from the air while active.

The average 20 hour heat pack will peak at 120-140 degree F in 4-6 hours, without ventilation the animal will die.

The refrigerator test is always a good idea

I know this is old but I just saw it after all this time lol.
HOles aren't needed and I have never used them nor have anybreeders who have shipped to me inclideing some well known reputable sellers.
All I do is place the red strip facing outward.
I'm not sure where the putting holes in the box came from but not needed.
Worst case you are allowing temps to flucuate and that would be a bigger problem than anything. :D

Sorry about the DOA...I live in Dayton, Ohio and it sucks we have to buy all our chams in the spring/summer and even with that our weather it's never really safe shipping here. Good luck with your future cham!
